The human experience is infinite in complexity, diversity and meaning. I understand that the nature of concerns bringing someone into therapy can be equally complex and is rarely as simple as a behaviour, diagnosis, relationship problem or a life event. I have over a decade of experience helping people to work through a range of concerns including: Relational issues, Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Bereavement/ Suicide bereavement. If any of these present a struggle in your life, I would be honoured to hear from you and work together towards finding some healthy, sustainable relief.

I specialize in working with youth/adults with chronic health issues, families adjusting to new realities (divorce/separation, infertility, diagnosis, grief and loss), individuals managing symptoms of anxiety and depression (panic disorder, night terrors, ruminating thoughts, suicidal ideation , persistent low mood, inner critic).
Each session is different, and tailored specifically to you and your individual needs. Together we will create an individualized plan to address your concerns and goals, and sessions will blend relevant elements of specific therapies. We will explore all areas of your life that are impacting your mental health, and see if there are adjustments that could improve your overall wellness. I will be checking in regularly to make sure the approach is working for you, and to address shifting goals and priorities.

Hi, I'm Scott! I have spent the past 18 years in Vancouver as a therapist working with children, youth, families and adults struggling with mental health issues, substance use, trauma, anger, grief, as well as isolation and disconnection. I have volunteered working with young offenders in the prison system, and with suicidal individuals through the services of the Vancouver Crisis Centre. Connectedness plays an important role in both my personal and professional life. At times, finding similar thoughts and opinions has helped me feel human. Other times, seeking different ideas and people has helped open my mind to new possibilities.

I work with adolescents and adults experiencing emotion dysregulation, suicidal ideation , and/or self-harming behaviours.
I have been a mental health counsellor/therapist for over 25 years. In my experience, two very important factors in therapy are trust and safety. I believe trust is earned by the therapist and safety is experienced by the client as therapy progresses. What I have learned from my clients is that even when they experienced hopelessness at first, change was possible, and when there was change, no matter how small, they felt hopeful. My aim is to support clients and help them identify and achieve their short and long term goals, at school, at work, in their family and private lives.

Hi, my name is Kaitlyn and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Over the past 10 years, I have had the honour of working with teens, adults and seniors struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, self-harm, suicidal ideation , emotion regulation, attachment, relational difficulties and more. I believe emotional and physical safety to be critical components in fostering a trusting and therapeutic relationship throughout sessions. This ensures that the therapeutic journey is reparative rather than re-traumatizing.

Due to my own inter-generational trauma, I have been supporting men's wellness for over 20 years. I have also been supporting Indigenous clients for over 10 years. More recently, in my work as Wellness Counsellor & Facilitator at Round Lake Treatment Centre, I was specifically supporting Indigenous clients who have experienced inter-generational trauma (cultural, sexual, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual abuses, neglect, abandonment, shame, and grief & loss). As a result, clients presented with addiction, anxiety, depression, isolation, self-harm/ suicide ideation, anger, and other co-occurring disorders.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in Vancouver are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in Vancouver then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in Vancouver, or Child Psychologists in Vancouver.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like Vancouver psychologists specializing in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in Vancouver specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
