The Centre for Psychodynamic Insights is a virtual clinic specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy. This approach explores the root causes of symptoms by uncovering and understanding underlying emotions through evidence-based treatment. Through collaborative dialogue, we examine unconscious thoughts and emotions shaped from childhood to the present. We work to relieve symptoms by understanding how these patterns affect current experiences, and create targeted strategies for meaningful change long-term.

I offer individual and couples counselling to neurotypical and neurodistinct clients (e.g. ADHD, autism) to work on issues such as, but not limited to, guilt and shame, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, trauma, communication skills, grief and loss, and disorganisation. Our sessions together would be about collaboratively increasing insight, clarity and encouragement, while also building a customised “menu” of practical resources to help reorient your daily life. I offer counselling primarily in English, and can also support clients who are more comfortable expressing themselves in Malay or Indonesian.

You may look like you are holding things together on the outside, but inside you feel anxious, overstimulated, disconnected, or exhausted. You might be navigating ADHD or autism and struggling to feel understood. You may be facing addiction patterns you want to break, or relationship conflicts that leave you feeling unheard. Perhaps you are questioning your identity, your direction, or your sense of belonging. You are thoughtful. You reflect deeply. You have likely tried to manage things on your own. But something tells you that coping alone is no longer enough. You want more than temporary relief.

When I think about the work that I do with folks, I see clients who are on the precipice of a breakthrough. Transitions, heavy adjustments, longing, desire for change are a few issues that come to mind. They are often grappling with matters of identity which typically clash with another part of themselves they discovered or perhaps buried. They are attempting to reconcile what has happened to them. Usually, they have been on this search for some time and need a space in which they can learn, unlearn, and relearn. Other times, it is a space to acknowledge and name the pain. They want freedom to express themselves authentically.

FAQ - South Asian Counselling
What can a South Asian therapist help with?
A South Asian therapist can help with the same concerns as any other therapist, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, stress, grief, and major life transitions. What may feel different, however, is the possibility of shared cultural understanding. If you identify with a South Asian background, such as Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, or Nepali, working with a therapist who shares or understands aspects of your culture may help you feel more comfortable discussing topics such as family expectations, identity, immigration, religion, language, stigma, or intergenerational conflict.

How can a South Asian therapist support couples counselling or family therapy?
A South Asian therapist can support couples counselling or family therapy by helping partners and family members explore how cultural background can shape roles, responsibilities, and expectations in a relationship. In some South Asian families, relationship dynamics may be influenced by expectations around marriage, gender roles, caregiving, religion, family involvement, or balancing individual needs with family obligations. These issues can affect mental health as well as relationship boundaries, parenting, communication, and major life decisions. A South Asian therapist can help you navigate these conversations with greater cultural understanding.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience with South Asian clients?
If cultural background is important to you in therapy, it can be helpful to ask a prospective therapist whether they have experience working with South Asian clients or clients from your specific cultural background. In initial conversations with potential therapists, you might ask whether they have worked with concerns related to cultural identity, immigration, family expectations, intergenerational conflict, or stigma around mental health. You can also ask whether they provide therapy in your preferred language.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of South Asian therapists?
The directory of South Asian therapists includes professionals who have shared their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason; also, when the number of therapists identified as South Asian is limited, the directory will also show therapists with comprehensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
