Hi there, nice to meet you! There are a lot of therapists on here and it can be hard to know where to start, so to help you work out if I might be the right fit, here are some headline facts about me: I am proudly LGBTQ2SI+ friendly, an intersectional feminist and strengths based counsellor. I work using a trauma informed approach and believe that clients are the experts of their own lives so I believe the best thing I can do is create a non-judgemental space for them. I love to laugh, run, drink tea and am open about choosing not to have children in a world that makes that difficult.

My clients tend to be people who march to the beat of their own drum. They know what it’s like to feel misunderstood, and some might go as far as to consider themselves “black sheep” or even outcasts. My approach to counselling involves finding and appreciating your unique identity. I love helping people embrace their most authentic selves!

Many of the challenges that bring people to therapy : anxiety, depression, self-criticism, people-pleasing, emotional overwhelm, or feeling stuck in harmfull behaviours are often the result of unmet emotional needs.
These needs might include feeling safe, understood, valued, supported, allowed to express emotions, or free to be yourself. When needs go unmet, we adapt in the best ways we can. But sometimes the adaptations that once helped us cope become the problem. Therapy can help you understand the unmet needs and how to change your life to better meet them.

Do you long for more natural and meaningful connections and relationships? You may feel discouraged when people in your life don’t seem to see who you really are, and you struggle to show up with confidence and ease. When friendships and relationships feel tense or stressful, you may find yourself wondering if it’s possible to turn things around – and where on earth to start. Using evidence-based therapy approaches (along with my own perceptive and curious mind), I help clients understand relational cycles they may be stuck in and also create goals to break away from those patterns.

I know what it's like when you're advocating at the top of your lungs but it feels like no one is listening.
Wait a minute, shouldn’t I be the expert on what it is like living in my body? Do I not deserve a seat at the table of my life?
Is there a manual for living life with chronic illness? I wish! What I'd give to feel like my voice mattered, navigating healthcare. What I'd give knowing that just because I do life differently does not mean I'm not accomplishing significant things. My body doesn't define me.
You don’t have to live life constantly questioning if your experiences are valid. You don’t have to live constantly

Would you like to be more self-responsible while also considering the needs of others, then exploring how you process your world together could be beneficial.

Secular and Non-Religious Counsellors
What is a secular and non religious approach in therapy?
Secular or non-religious therapy is a theoretical orientation used by many therapists and describes a therapeutic approach that does not rely on any specific religious or faith-based beliefs in the therapeutic process. Secular counsellors will often approach therapy with an emphasis on evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients, instead of relying on religious practices, such as prayer or belief in God.
Is secular therapy primarily for non-religious people?
Both religious and non-religious individuals can benefit from secular therapy. People exploring their religious or spiritual beliefs may find it especially useful to work with a secular therapist who is unbiased toward any specific religion. While religious individuals might value the connection and familiarity of seeing a counsellor who shares their beliefs, secular counselling can offer them the chance to develop coping skills independent of their religious practice, which can be beneficial in various aspects of their lives.
Can a secular approach to therapy help with religious trauma?
One major reason clients may seek a secular therapist is to process previous religious experiences, including religious trauma. Secular therapists can help clients manage symptoms of the trauma through practices such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). They can also encourage clients through talk therapy or psychodynamic approaches to explore the roots of their religious trauma. Since secular therapists do not have any predetermined religious beliefs, they can be particularly helpful for clients looking to explore their own religious beliefs following a history of religious trauma.
What does non religious marriage and premarital counselling involve?
Marriage and premarital counselling typically involves a couple meeting with a therapist to discuss topics such as planning for marriage, navigating a new marriage, addressing relationship challenges, and developing better communication and conflict resolution skills. Non-religious therapists assist couples in achieving these goals without adhering to specific religious beliefs or frameworks, often emphasising inclusivity and non-judgment, especially for "nontraditional" couples. However, seeking couples therapy from a non-religious counsellor does not mean religious topics are off-limits. In fact, non-religious couples from different religious backgrounds may benefit from a secular therapist who remains neutral toward the beliefs of each partner.
