15 years in full time practice, & 6 years as a peer counselling volunteer. A combined 21 years of experience. Since beginning in practice I have logged over 14000+ direct client hours. In that time I have helped a number of individuals, and couples overcome obstacles to their health and well-being. I offer a collaborative, psycho-educational, research based treatment strategy to clients whom are challenged in multiple areas of functioning. Therapeutic progress, change readiness are seem as dependant on a number of variables, and in my experience are extremely qualitative (individually dependant); so no 1 size fits all!

I work with children aged 7 and up, youth, and adults/parents. All persons and conversations are unique. Therefore the way I work mostly depends on what you might ask for help with. I always want treatment to be effective, so I aim to integrate a variety of evidence-based techniques into a plan that is uniquely suited to each client.

I work with adults in BC who feel caught in anxiety, lack of confidence or repeating relationship patterns — and want to understand why, not just cope. My approach is depth-oriented, attachment-based, and relational. I offer therapy in both English and Farsi. You may be someone who functions well on the outside but feels quietly exhausted, disconnected, or stuck in the same cycles. Perhaps anxiety has become your default setting, or you find yourself in relationships that feel familiar but painful. You are self-aware and ready to go deeper.

With over ten years of experience creating meaningful therapeutic relationships that lead to lasting changes, I take a trauma-informed approach, integrating psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, somatic, and existential theories to increase self-awareness, healing, and growth.
I work well with folks who have long-standing issues, trauma, and/or interpersonal challenges. Some ways this may present are you may have difficulties with being kind to yourself, struggles sustaining meaningful relationships, and/or having confusion about who you are. You may have a diagnosis of depression, anxiety, PTSD or a personality disorder. An integral part of how I approach therapy is the development of a safe and trusting relationship between you and I, where you can feel comfortable to show up as yourself. Together we will explore how you face reality, your intrapsychic world and the experiences that have shaped it.

My approach to counselling is a psychodynamic, person-centred, and trauma-informed approach. The psychodynamic approach can help us gain new insights into our lives, and by integrating art into the session, it can become a powerful mind-body-oriented resource for individuals to look into themselves, and at their concerns, from a different angle.

The Centre for Psychodynamic Insights is a virtual clinic specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy. This approach explores the root causes of symptoms by uncovering and understanding underlying emotions through evidence-based treatment. Through collaborative dialogue, we examine unconscious thoughts and emotions shaped from childhood to the present. We work to relieve symptoms by understanding how these patterns affect current experiences, and create targeted strategies for meaningful change long-term.

My expertise is in working with difficulties related to relational dynamics, especially those found in Asian/Asian North American contexts and families. In addition to having lived in Hong Kong, I've worked diverse clients in Los Angeles and Vancouver and I enjoy working with people who are hoping to make better sense of themselves and others from multiple perspectives. Former clients of mine regularly feel as though they are more aware of their "blind spots", are more free to make good life choices, and are prepared to have more fulfilling relationships overall.

Relational & Psychodynamic Therapy / Background in Medicine / Individuals, Couples & Mindfulness-Based Programs / / People often come to therapy because something in their inner life no longer feels workable. Patterns repeat, symptoms persist, or there is a sense of being stuck despite effort and understanding. I view emotional distress—and at times even physical symptoms—as meaningful expressions of how a person has learned to adapt in order to stay connected, safe, or intact.

You find yourself stuck with thoughts, feelings, or behaviours that weigh you down and isolate you from loved ones. Maybe you're in the midst of crisis and you need someone to listen and support you. I'm convinced (based on good evidence) that it's possible to change how we live and relate to the world around us. We can ask new questions, think new thoughts, embrace our emotions, challenge our beliefs, and heal from trauma. I can help you identify where you're at, what you need, and then work with you to achieve your goals through an approach that is relational, creative, and collaborative.

Zoë (she/her) understands that healing happens in relationship—within the safety of being truly seen, heard, and understood without judgment. Her practice is built on the foundation that when we feel genuinely witnessed, our nervous system can shift into a state that promotes deep healing, allowing us to reconnect with our inherent wisdom and resilience. Drawing from a rich toolkit of evidence-based modalities—including AEDP, ISTP, ACT, IFS, EFT, somatic therapy, and couples work—Zoë’s approach remains fundamentally client-centred. She meets each person exactly where they are, fostering a collaborative therapeutic relationship.

Constantly thinking to yourself, “What is wrong with me?” is exhausting. Maybe it shows up as anxiety, anger, loneliness, relationship struggles, difficulty getting things done, or the way you respond when life feels like too much. Maybe things look okay from the outside, but internally you feel confused by your reactions, your relationships, or the patterns you keep finding yourself in. Whatever it looks like, we can work together to understand what is getting in the way of living the life you want to live.

Psychoanalytic Counsellors
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
