Are you giving up so much to others that you barely have space for yourself? What would it feel like to finally have a space where you don’t have to carry everything on your own? Our ideal clients are individuals, couples, youth, and families who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about how to move forward. People often reach out when coping strategies no longer feel effective, relationships feel strained, emotions feel difficult to manage, or they’ve reached a point where they know they don’t want to carry things alone anymore.

I believe that life has the potential to be beautiful and fulfilling. At the same time, I believe that life consistently presents us with challenges and that these challenges can ultimately serve and enable our own growth. I see counselling as the space where we can more fully understand ourselves and discover how to live our lives to the fullest. I believe that by taking such a position we can become more aspirational and creative rather than becoming stuck on and identified with problems. Through becoming more conscious and aware, I believe we can unlock ourselves, overcome barriers, and find creative paths towards living fully.

To all appearances you’ve got a great life. You’re smart, driven, & successful. But privately, you sometimes struggle with negative thoughts you have about who you are, what you are worth, and what you've done with your life. These stubborn thoughts and beliefs are affecting every aspect of your life: your health, work, your relationships, and your self-esteem. You try to keep them at bay but you're exhausted from the effort and you want to break free of them and live again. You want to feel seen, supported & understood by someone you can trust. You're ready for something new.

As a trauma counsellor with Northern Tide Support Services, I find that many of my clients come to me after doing significant work on themselves—through therapy, self-reflection, or life experience—and are now seeking guidance to take the next step. Together, we will focus on deepening insight, breaking through patterns that may still feel “stuck,” and fostering greater alignment between your inner world and the life you want to create. My role is to walk alongside you, offering perspective, tools, and support as you continue to heal, grow, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Where once your relationship was a source of safety and support, now you feel disconnected and you can’t find your way back. Where once there was hope and light, now there’s a void, and everything feels uncertain. Where once there was joy and laughter, there’s silence and tension. The days are passing and nothing seems to shift. You know that life doesn’t have to be this way, but somehow you are stuck here. It feels like there is so much below the surface that is difficult to address. Conversations are tense and nobody feels heard. And yet you are not ready to give up and call it quits.

Your sex or relationship issues leave your life feeling like it is in turmoil even outside of the bedroom. You’ve tried to manage things on your own, but it’s a struggle, and you’re tired of struggling. Friends and family don’t understand, but it’s not like this is something you can talk to them about anyway. And even if there is that one friend that you can talk to, they don’t really know what to say.

I support those who are seeking not only to better understand their underlying patterns but also to actively improve their quality of life with a safe, supportive and collaborative counselling relationship. Issues that I help with include healing from traumatic loss, recovering from the effects of childhood trauma, relationship abuse, and other difficult life events. I also work extensively with issues around emotional regulation, boundary setting, anxiety, depression and substance misuse. Even when your struggles originate from severe adversity and trauma, you can grow, not only despite adversity, but because of it.

I heard that the purpose of therapy is not meant to change who you are, but to become who you really are. I use evidence-based therapy to help you learn skills to better face challenges while also building insight into how these issues may have come about. I use a type of talk therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which focuses on understanding and being open to thoughts and emotions, being aware of the present moment and your perspective in it, and deepening your values with actionable steps. I also do assessments for Family Law matters such as Section 211, Parental Capacity, and Views of the Child Reports.

Do you feel distressed but don't understand why? Have you tried different methods and it only helped a little but never get ahead? Have you ever wondered what the core issue is? Working with me might find you those answers. A lot of people ask who gets counselling, I believe that anyone who experiences stress could get a therapist; however, many have amazing family and friends that allow them to bounce ideas, inspire motivation, and provides insight so counselling really isn't needed. Most people wait till they are in crisis to get help which would mean a rough journey to baseline. Let's be preventative rather than reactionary.

Hi there! I’m Marcus, a gay second-generation Chinese settler. As a student therapist under clinical supervision, I offer low-cost counselling starting at $30 a session. My commitment to this work emerged from seeing how spiritual and cultural expectations can collide with queerness. and systems of power shape our sense of self. In my counselling work, I’ve provided support to youth who survived childhood trauma, neurodiverse folks seeking to unmask, and offered care to queer and BIPOC peoples seeking a place to feel understood. I am passionate about walking alongside individuals as they make sense of the insight they already have.

If you find yourself constantly striving to "do more," avoid disappointing others, and maintain high standards, you may be a Type C personality. This dedication often leads to burnout, chronic stress or pain, dissatisfaction and isolation.

Life’s hardships can break us into pieces. We may feel like we want to throw in the towel. We might lose our confidence in ourselves. We might be oppressed, feeling depressed. We might feel lonely. We might be going through major transitions, grief, heartbreaks. No matter how hard life can get, we can always find the path to freedom. That is where therapy comes in. Therapy encourages you to face life’s hardships willingly, with courage and trust that can be hard to cultivate otherwise.

Everyone's story is unique and no therapy session follows a predictable path. Yet the following steps provide a general outline of how your therapy sessions with me may progress. We investigate your particular problem thoroughly, its destructive dramas and dark messages, until we see exactly how it turns up in your day. Just as important, we clarify your core values, hopes, and skills from which emerges a clear direction for your life.

Throughout my work I have supported many people who are struggling with: depression, anxiety, negative thoughts about oneself, addiction, dis-ordered eating, self-harm, suicidal thinking, sexuality, gender identity, sexual orientation, issues related to racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia, grief and loss, men's issues, anger and frustration. I encourage you to contact me if you are experiencing any of these struggles. You might be feeling out of place in your own life, carrying more than you can hold on your own. Maybe you are moving through change, resettlement, or questions of identity and belonging, and it is getting harder to manage on your own. You may also be feeling the strain of having to explain yourself too many times. I work with adults and older teens (16+) who are looking for a steady, respectful space to begin sorting through what they are carrying. I offer reduced-fee counselling as part of a supervised clinical training placement, with sessions available in English and Arabic and attention to culture, language, and lived contexts.

My counselling approach is genuinely listening, not only to words, but the meaning, with understanding, compassion and kindness.  The positive therapeutic relationship between a client and counsellor is everything. I use a Humanistic-Experiential approach which nurtures openness, cultivating a deeply compassionate relationship with your inner self, and acknowledging your thoughts, feelings and desires without judgment. “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” ― Carl R. Rogers

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
