I work at the crossroads of culture, mental health, and social-economic integration. My counselling is for people who want to belong while staying true to themselves – especially racialized first and second-generation Canadians who may feel torn between worlds. Our background is not a footnote in our lives; it shapes our strengths and struggles, and how and where we find home. With years of learning and teaching language, religion and culture, and lived experience across the Arab world, South and Southeast Asia, and Canada, I help clients identify tools as well as traps in their heritage and discover their authentic selves.

Specializing in trauma-informed care, I also provide culturally sensitive counseling for BIPOC, MENA, and Islamic individuals.
You are a naturally curious free spirit, yet you feel confined by societal, cultural, or familial expectations that prevent you from being your true self. It’s as if you’re stuck in a box, longing to break free but unsure how. You seek to impact the world positively by giving love, kindness, and understanding, yet you also crave to receive what you offer. Conflicting advice on how to live leaves you confused, and you're ready to break through these barriers to live in a way that is meaningful to you.

The people I often work with are struggling with feeling like they don't belong anywhere - whether that be with friends, family or at school, or work. They feel like they aren't 'good enough,' to be in the spaces or roles that they are in. Some find their relationships complicated - with friends, family, or romantic partners - where others don’t understand their values and what they want. You deserve to be heard, you deserve to live life on your terms with your values, and you deserve space to belong.

Perhaps you may be experiencing a sense of fear or anxiety that is holding you back. You may be feeling exhausted or stuck, unsure about how to move forward. As your therapist, I would be honoured to walk alongside you. I believe each one of us experiences times in our lives when we need extra support. I am dedicated to creating a non-judgmental space in which you are no longer alone with it all. Together, we will gently expand the edge of your comfort zone, build psychological flexibility, and learn to balance acceptance with change.

Counselling can be seen as planting a seed that, with nurturing and attention, will grow into something beautiful. Every individual is akin to a seed that undergoes continual growth, advancing through each fleeting season filled with moments of happiness, sorrows, triumphs, bravery, disappointments, and fresh starts. Like seeds, humans require sources and resources to aid them in reaching their full potential, such as sunlight, rain, and soil. And just like every seed holds importance, every human being also possesses inherent value. By choosing to seek counseling, you have taken the first step towards transformation.

I also provide culturally sensitive therapy for BIPOC and Muslim individuals.
I work with adults, couples, and parents who feel emotionally overwhelmed, stuck, or impacted by difficult life experiences. Many of my clients are seeking clarity, emotional balance, and deeper, healthier relationships. I believe that every person has an inherent capacity to heal, and that with the right support, clients can reconnect with their inner strengths and who they truly want to become. In our work together, clients explore emotional patterns shaped by past experiences and develop greater self-compassion, regulation, and more meaningful connections.

As a trained Imam and licensed counselor, I integrate the wisdom of Islamic teachings with evidence-based therapeutic modalities.
Imagine sitting in a cozy room, the faint scent of freshly brewed tea lingering in the air as you and your partner find yourselves facing challenges that seem insurmountable. The weight of grief or the strain of unspoken emotions hangs heavy between you. It's a scenario familiar to many, where the complexities of relationships, the trials of parenthood, or the echoes of past traumas cast shadows over the present. In this moment, what you yearn for is a path forward. You dream of rediscovering the joy and understanding that once defined your relationship, of building a future where communication flows freely and wounds begin to mend.

I believe that seeking support from another human being is a very natural thing to do. As a therapist, I believe that my humanity is an asset in supporting clients as they work through challenges, developing a deeper understanding of their lives. As a counsellor and art therapist, I focus on creating a therapeutic relationship based on trust, where I bring a compassionate, nonjudgmental approach paired with my training to help clients work through whatever challenges they are facing. I have a special passion for working with immigrants and refugees: as a newcomer to Canada, I understand the struggles that are often presented.

You may feel overwhelmed. You overthink, doubt yourself, struggle with mood shifts, or feel easily triggered with your partner or child. You react in ways you later regret and wonder, “Why do I keep doing this?” These patterns often begin early in life, as our nervous system learns to stay on guard. Deep down, you want to feel calm instead of reactive, confident rather than self-critical, and connected without losing yourself. As a parent, you may long to be more patient, steady, and present. You want to feel connected, valued, safe, and secure; not just with others, but within yourself.

Muslim Counsellors
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
A culturally sensitive therapist will be respectful of faith, race, sexual orientation, gender, age, disabilities, or anything that is relevant to an individual’s reasons for seeking therapy. This mental health practitioner will therefore be able to recognize the role of faith in a client’s life, and they can appreciate the cultural values and beliefs of others. Cultural sensitivity on the part of the therapist may enhance the possibility of a strong therapeutic bond, even if the clinician does not have an extensive understanding of a client’s background before therapy begins.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Muslim clients?
It is best to ask directly whether a therapist has worked with Muslim clients, and if so, the extent to which cultural or religious principles factored into their work together. You can also ask whether a therapist who is familiar with Islamic practices, values, and beliefs incorporates them into their professional work, and if so, how. If the therapist does not have a sufficient knowledge base, they may well know and can refer you to someone who has such experience.

What if the therapist does not have my exact background?
It is not necessary for a therapist to share one’s exact religious background for therapy to be successful. A qualified and culturally sensitive therapist will appreciate diversity within the Muslim community as well as diversity overall, and will have a sense of how religious and cultural issues can contribute to mental health. In addition, a good therapist would be willing to learn from their clients.

How do I recognise an effective Muslim therapist?
Like all therapists, a Muslim therapist who is effective will have the requisite training and expertise in evidence-based techniques, as well as the ability to connect with you on a personal level. An effective Muslim therapist may also demonstrate a clear understanding of your cultural background and faith. A therapist with such cultural sensitivity will set the stage for a strong therapeutic alliance.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of the Muslim faith?
The directory of Muslim therapists includes mental health providers who have shared their cultural background in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist with a similar background. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. When the number of therapists identified as Muslim is limited, the directory will also show therapists with extensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
