If you’re a woman experiencing anxiety and/or depression who often engages in negative self-talk, my open and compassionate way of working with body and mind may be right for you. Your gloom/dread may come from traumatic experiences, and/or it may arise from good experiences that did not happen. The empathy that wasn't demonstrated, a safety that wasn't provided, grief that wasn't attended; developmental experience influences your ability to show up as the person you want to be. Missing out on good experiences, or bearing traumatic experience, can affect your sense of security, it does not, however, stop you from earning security.

I identify as a cisgendered queer female and person of colour.
The human experience can be exhausting and confusing at times… “Can I just get a break!?” If you are reading this, it’s likely you may have reached a point of exhaustion and the logical brain keeps telling you “but, I don’t know why/how…” yet you feel that there is more or that your soul is calling out and something is missing. ‘I’ve been there. The body holds inner stories that are trying to be told, but when the mind doesn’t know how to process them, they show up as anxiety, depression, feeling lost or stuck, and/or behaviors that directly impact our connection to ourselves, others, and the universe.

Relationships can give us purpose and joy, but they can also be complicated and uncomfortable. This can be especially true for women : many of us put extra care into tending and repairing relationships, which can leave us feeling lonely and frustrated. You may be craving care, acceptance, and belonging. Instead, you may be feeling stuck, discouraged, overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and questioning if things will ever be different. Whether you’re feeling this way in your romantic, friendship, parenting, or family relationships, please know that you’re not alone.

I use my own experience as a feminist, cisgender, pan/bisexual, femme, and poly woman to inform my practice.
Life can feel incredibly painful when we are feeling disconnected, isolated, and ridden with distressing thoughts, memories and emotions. Together, we can make space for the parts of you needing to express that pain. By experiencing, and embracing the disenfranchised parts of you, we can move into a life rich with meaning and fulfillment.

As a BIPOC woman raised in Brazil, and a settler in Canada for over 20 years, and a trained psychotherapist, I bring to my practice and life a multicultural, compassionate lens, exploring with curiosity the influence.
My approach as a trauma psychotherapist is multi-layered, drawing from a range of modalities, including but not limited to: Compassionate Inquiry (CI), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness practices. I am also trained in psychedelics-assisted psychotherapy. This broad range of skills allows me to design the most individualized approach for each client’s unique needs. I have a particular interest in trauma, anxiety, addictions, depression, eating disorders, grief, and psychedelic integration.

For the past 20 years, I have been providing culturally-sensitive individual, couple, and family therapy to women , men, and LGBTQ2S+ persons — from youth to elderly.
Please note that my schedule is currently full… but I may be able to take new clients in May 2023... Then, if you are looking for that "safe place" to share without judgment or criticism, look no further. I know first-hand how difficult it can be to open up to someone about life's most private issues and challenges - as well as how much relief and peace can come after doing so. Whether you desire to quickly resolve a current issue or obstacle, or hope to identify and overcome some deeper, longer-standing issues that are preventing a full and satisfying life, together we can help you get there with YOU as expert of your own life!

I identify as queer, cisgendered, female and person of colour.
You are an entrepreneur, artist and truth seeker. You identify as a relational anarchist and a creative spirit that is determind to design your life and the structure of your relationships. You seek your own answers as to what it means to be living a meaningful life. You are motivated by the fear of leaving the earth not having lived your life to your fullest, completely governed by unconscious drives, and not having examined your suffering. Most importantly, you can no longer bear not speaking your truth and living your most authentic expressions of self. Finding your soul's purpose is one of your driving principles in life.

As a young immigrant woman , I received support when I faced challenges and learned how healing and heartening genuine empathy and understanding could be.
As a counsellor, I intend to bring compassion, openness, curiosity, genuineness and cultural sensitivity to create a warm, safe and non-judgmental space for the clients to heal and change. I aim to utilize awareness and presence as instruments of empowerment for my clients. I invite the clients to make contact with their senses, emotions and thoughts in the present moment to facilitate awareness and acceptance, as I believe healing and change happen when individuals accept and embrace who they are.

Life can be challenging, and you deserve support. Yet, we as women feel guilty for prioritizing ourselves all too often. We are used to putting others’ needs and comfort before our own. Maybe you notice being very critical of yourself. Perhaps you’re struggling with relationships, life changes or overwhelming emotions like anxiety, anger or shame. You might be asking yourself: “Who am I? Is this the life I want?” I want you to know that you don’t have to deal with it alone.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
