I understand firsthand how much of a balancing act life can be. I know that life can present challenges that take us off course and result in feelings of frustration, anxiety, and fear. I know that the competing demands of work and
family
life can make it feel like you are being pulled in all directions and not really doing anything well, it's as though you are barely keeping your head above water. I work with people who are ready feel differently.

Conflicts. Heartache. Angst. Chronic worry. Fear. Prolonged Sadness. Anger. You probably tried to deal with your struggles on your own, but you are not meant to suffer alone. Most of us reach out for help to
family
and friends. But sometimes you need more. You need someone who knows how to help you through your difficulties. You need someone who will hear, understand and help you find your way out of darkness. You need someone who can help you develop the courage to say no to toxic choices and yes to life-affirming decisions.

I am a
Family
Systems trained therapist specializing in relational therapy and the treatment of trauma.
Negative life experiences not only affect a person individually, but relationally as well. Survivors can begin to experience issues with trust, communication and closeness that often create a pattern of distancing in order to avoid conflict. From my years of training and experience, both personally and professionally, I believe in the power of reconnecting with the self and others to heal.

When someone reaches out for counselling, it's usually because of a problem they want to work through, something they hope to change, or an area of their life they desire to grow and develop. My passion is to support & walk alongside my clients at these times in their lives. Counselling is very much a collaborative process. I see my role as creating a therapeutic environment that feels comfortable & safe so clients can explore their lives more fully and come to a greater understanding of who they are.

You are no longer alone - thanks for stopping by. Perhaps you’re here because you are experiencing a sense of anxiety in your body or a mind that won't quiet down. You might be feeling exhausted or triggered easily and don’t quite understand how to move forward. In other cases, our inner work seems lifelong, as we are holding years of tangled relationships, complex
family
dynamics, trauma and fighting to create space for ourselves. I feel honored to walk by your side to enhance the sense of safety as we slowly dive into the tangles together and intentionally access your inner sense of power.

In the world of problems, maybe none are more worth solving than those that plague children and families. Over 20 years, I have dedicated my practice to solving these problems by counselling parents, children & families and assisting them through high-conflict challenges. In March 2013, the
Family
Law Act changed whereby it now is rightly focused on the best interests of the child and makes it possible for families to work with a parental coordinator who has judicial authority to make legally binding decisions. This alternate dispute resolution allows for a more effective process so that children of high-conflict families are not stale mated.

Family therapy
is a way to address issues that occur within the
family
system.
I draw on over 30 years of professional experience in working with adolescents, adults and families. By providing a safe non judgmental environment I can support you to explore the thoughts and belief patterns that create your reactions. When you recognize patterns of interactions and triggers, together we explore and cultivate an understanding of how those patterns started. You determine, if these patterns continue to serve you. I can help bring what is unconscious, conscious so you can choose how you respond in any given situation. You get to create a life that is more in line with your goals, values and ideals.

Some of the modalities I work with are AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), EFT (Emotional Focused Therapy) and Bowen
Family
Systems.
My clients are willing to pull apart their patterns, experiences and how they show up in relationships. Growth can be uncomfortable and part of my work is helping my clients connect back to themselves. At this time in the world there are no end to struggles, trauma and hardship. We all need a place to land and feel seen and heard so we can also experience the beauty, joy and connection in the world. My hope is to help my clients feel safe and comfortable setting boundaries, feeling their feelings, and to be able to connect to themselves and the people who they love.

Family Therapy Counsellors
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
