Finding a counsellor is just like looking for a significant other, the relationship needs to feel right for you to be best version of yourself.
I go by he/him/his and I work with folks who are in the marginalized group(s) (gay/bi/queer, person of colour... etc.) who experienced discrimination and/or sexual and physical assault who wants to have more options to respond and understand themselves. Folks who feel that they oftentimes react out of proportion to the situation and experienced challenges to trust and build favourable relationships with others. Folks who want to gain some perspectives on their own strengths and resilience. My client demographic so far has only been with men or masculine identifying individuals.

I work with individuals and couples who struggle with relationships, current or historical trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD and mood disorders.
I believe that you should do you. I also think that you should do the least anxious, least depressed, least traumatized and least isolated version of you that you can do. Reaching out for counselling can be really nerve-racking. It is also hard to admit that there is something in your life that might not be working quite right. My hopes are that you can make the changes that you want to make, and I'm hoping that I can support you to do it.

When I'm not in the therapists chair, I can often be found enjoying the outdoors with my energetic toddler and partner , walking the Vancouver seawall or hiking in the nearby mountains.
I support female identifying individuals to recognise and change troubling emotions, thoughts and behaviour. My experience is with ages 12- 25, in navigating a range of issues, such as anger, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, identity, loss and trauma. My approach is evidence-based, trauma-informed and collaborative, through an attachment theory lens. In addition to an empathic therapeutic connection, I offer practical tools and strategies to help manage setbacks. Hearing the unique stories of each person I get to know as a therapist is an honour and a privilege. I feel fortunate to be able to do what I love.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
