I believe the most important part of my role is to create an environment and relationship that is safe, and therefore, I work from an overarching anti-oppressive, trauma-informed and feminist lens.
There are times when we just don’t feel like ourselves. For some of us, this means feeling overwhelmed by our thoughts and emotions, while for others the disconnect can come from feeling nothing at all. This internal “ickiness” can show up through our emotions, thoughts, or in our body, and is often a scary, confusing, and unsettling experience. This intuitive feeling is typically caused by misalignment; whether it’s having conflict within ourselves, feeling out of step with those close to us, or feeling out of place in the world around us.

Growth and transformation are largely based on an environment of compassion, safety, and collaboration. As a sexologist, I study human sexuality and sexual behaviour, and work with both individuals and couples to improve and address issues in their sex lives. The client-counsellor relationship is foundational, and I use an integrative, personalized approach with each client. I encourage clients to use their own understanding of experiences as a platform for healing, and together, we work to discover clarity, develop awareness, and create balance.

A Registered Psychologist in Vancouver since 1980, I am passionate about exploring the subconscious mind, assisting my clients to clarify and accomplish their goals, personal and professional. My ideal client has some knowledge of themselves and is deeply motivated to change. Patterns that respond very well to hypnotherapy include smoking, emotional eating, addictions, phobias and insomnia. Hypnotherapy can clear sabotages to success, blocks to self esteem, blocks to creativity, procrastination, fear of public speaking, and help athletes achieve optimal sports performance. Relationships: I love to work with couples experiencing relationship issues, helping them learn to express and listen to each other from the heart.

I believe the core of human development is physiological, psychological and spiritual. Supportive therapy can help awaken an individual's dormant spirit and guide them through profound personal transformations. I work with adults, couples , and groups. I apply client-centered Lifespan Integration (LI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In addition, I add a Cross-Cultural approach when working with my immigrant clients (Iranians & other immigrant communities). LI: The human mind develops interactively in response to the early childhood environment. The developing neural system "hardwire" interprets events and stays with individuals throughout their lifetime.

My counselling style is centered around the therapeutic relationship and collaborative goal setting, from a somatic attachment theory, and eye-movement desensitization & reprocessing (EMDR) lens.
Hi, I’m Nicole. I live in the beautiful Sea to Sky corridor & accept online clients throughout BC. I believe that through therapy all people have the opportunity to learn and understand themselves on a deeper level. With this inner exploration one can experience more understanding, self compassion, and open space for more joy in life – starting today. Therapy can support clients to explore personal patterns that may no longer be serving them. Together clients and therapists work to safely let go of those patterns while building supportive resources, discovering new skills, and creating a personalized tool kit to move forward with.

I specialize in providing individual and couples therapy to clients who are experiencing hardship with life transitions.
There is always space for self-improvement and growth. It is not always easy to reach out and open your heart and your life to someone. You might be going through tough times, and you might not be able to talk about it with anyone. Depression can take us to dark places and sometimes we might need a bit of a guidance and tools to be able to deal with it and understand it. There might be difficult life transitions that you can come across and you might want your life and your relationships to move to a better place.

I have been in private counselling practice for 15 years, and in wellness, personal development and the media for 25 years. My practice draws self-referring, high-functioning adults/ couples with addiction, phobia, anxiety, depression and attachment disorders affecting their lives beyond their historical, current or perceived ability of self-control. In couples , I usually begin individually to create safety and self-awareness, then back together towards clear self-advocacy, expression and to build trustful communication. EMDR in the couple context can clear a lot of old trauma and wounded pattern-associations that mire us in destructive relational dynamics.

Relationship counselling.
We all struggle at times. Whether it is a low mood that lingers too long, or anxiety that inhibits your life. Feeling like a failure, a bad parent, or like you just do not feel at home in your skin can start to feel like it poisons everything. Confidence dwindles, emotions feel too unpredictable, or stress seems to get under your skin more than it used to. You may be finding that your close relationships are more stressful than they used to be. Life may feel like it’s getting smaller and smaller. You know something has to change. It is time to reach out for help.

One of the great therapists of the last 50 years, Irvin Yalom, wrote that "the relationship is the therapy.
My fundamental orientation to counselling is existential. At its heart, this approach doesn't distinguish between cognitions (thinking) and affect (feeling) and the somatic (body). Instead, it (and I) attempt to make contact with the whole of one's being. After all, we don't refer to ourselves as "human brains" or "human bodies" but as human beings. This is why talk therapy participates in healing the body, but it also explains why attention to the body can help heal what we generally call mental illness. And in the midst of it all, feelings are the endlessly rich source of information that help connect thinking to the body.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
