My ideal clients are sensitive, emotionally aware adults healing painful relationships—particularly people of any gender who've been hurt by men: in childhood, romantic relationships, or family dynamics. This includes sensitive men seeking a male therapist they can trust, and women who need to know working with a man will feel safe. Clients come to me carrying anxiety, self-criticism, or painful relationship patterns they can't seem to escape. We work gently with mindfulness, parts work, and somatic awareness to help the parts carrying old pain finally feel safe enough to soften.

I draw from Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Buddhist psychology — not as doctrine, but as ways to listen with presence, curiosity, and compassion.
I’m Conlan Mansfield, a clinical counsellor in Vancouver offering steady, thoughtful support for people who carry a lot beneath a composed exterior. Many clients I work with are responsible, reflective, and self-reliant — the kind of people others depend on — yet find themselves overwhelmed, uncertain, or exhausted inside. I provide a space where you don’t have to hold everything together alone. My approach is grounded, collaborative, and practical. We focus on what’s happening for you now, identify the life you want to move toward, and build from the strengths and resources already present in your experience.

We offer narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, somatic therapy, mindfulness, and secular Buddhist psychology.
We all have things we’ve been told about ourselves that we internalize and start telling ourselves. Do you struggle with a story or belief about yourself that holds you back? Does this cause you some stress, loneliness, conflict in your relationships, or even lead you into misusing alcohol or substances? Now, more than ever, a lot of us are feeling disconnected from others and under the spell of negative stories about ourselves. In my practice, my team and I believe that these stories can be rewritten, that we are each the author of our own lives.

People are not their diagnoses even though these labels can sometimes be informative. I prefer to get to know you. Specifically, what do you want out of therapy? What is currently working for you, not working? What brings you in to see me in this moment? I believe that therapy is not only about reducing our suffering, but also finding meaning and fulfillment in our lives. It is about getting to know ourselves, parts that we love, parts that we are afraid of, parts that we don't yet understand. People are also not things that need to be "fixed", instead, this is a place for healing, self-compassion, and growth.

I have a deep personal understanding of the struggles faced by today’s youth and young adults. Growing up in an immigrant, working class family who came as Vietnamese boat refugees, I was the first Canadian-born child in my family. Because of this, I know first hand what it’s like to navigate life’s hardships, and that understanding has driven my lifelong passion to provide meaningful, compassionate mental health care to youth and young adults from all walks of life. My passion is to support you through the seasons of your life, pertaining to school, work, and relationships, with improved self-confidence and clarity in your decision

I am holistic, spiritual and person centred with approaches of trauma informed, art therapy, somatic work and optional Buddhist informed framework.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Art Therapist with over 12 years of experience supporting people through trauma, complex family dynamics, challenges in emotional regulation and stress in interpersonal relationships. I work holistically, integrating talk therapy with creative art process, somatic work, and hypnotherapy to meet the clients at where they are. Because trauma is something we carry in our bodies, my work gently supports clients in connecting with deeper emotional experiences, including those that may be hard to access through words alone.

There are gifts and transformations embedded within trauma. My counselling approach is holistic and relationally based with a focus on a somatic (body) awareness to bring congruency between the mind and body. Many of our wounds occurred within our most trusted relationships causing us to have difficulties getting close to loved ones. Also, we become disconnected from ourselves when we experience trauma or disruptions in relationships. The good news is, with the right support, everyone has an inner capacity to heal and transform from their struggles.

Is buddhism beneficial for mental health?
While Buddhism itself is not a treatment for mental health conditions, its practices can greatly enhance mental well-being by introducing coping skills and ideas that promote overall wellness. Key Buddhist practices, such as mindfulness, have been shown to alleviate symptoms of various mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma. Moreover, Buddhism's focus on self-compassion, non-judgment, and acceptance can benefit individuals with particularly negative or self-critical thought patterns.

What are the concepts and principles of buddhism as a therapeutic approach?
Core Buddhist principles are often used in therapy to help clients gain insight into their thoughts and emotions. Concepts such as suffering (dukkha) and impermanence (anicca) are applied to help clients recognise that common forms of suffering, like repetitive negative thought patterns, can be accepted and viewed as impermanent. The Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path are additional core concepts utilised frequently in Buddhist therapy sessions. The Four Noble Truths highlight the existence of suffering as an inherent part of the human experience—an insight frequently used to move clients toward greater acceptance. The Eightfold Path, which includes right understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right concentration, and right mindfulness, offers practical skills to alleviate suffering.

What is the buddhist approach and practice during a therapy session?
Therapists informed by Buddhist principles often integrate mindfulness and meditation practices into therapy sessions to help clients cultivate greater acceptance, compassion, and non-judgment toward themselves and others. Typically, Buddhist therapists guide clients through mindfulness exercises, such as breathing exercises or body scans, and encourage them to practice similar exercises outside of sessions. Additionally, many Buddhist therapists utilise elements of Positive Psychology or Compassion-Focused Therapy, which can help reduce symptoms of self-criticism and shame common among clients with various mental health conditions. In general, Buddhist therapists strive to embody the compassion and non-judgmental approach they promote, often incorporating exercises aimed at developing compassion in session, such as loving-kindness meditation (Metta).

Is mindfulness the same as buddhism in the context of therapy?
While Buddhist therapists frequently integrate mindfulness practices into therapy sessions, the terms mindfulness and Buddhism are not synonymous in the context of therapy. Therapists may use mindfulness techniques, such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), without identifying as a Buddhist therapist. In contrast, those practicing within a Buddhist belief framework typically encourage mindfulness therapies, in addition to foundational Buddhist beliefs, such as the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. These therapists may also guide clients toward a deeper understanding of Buddhist philosophy, unlike those who use Buddhist mindfulness principles without the broader spiritual context.
