My work is trauma informed and neuroaffirming, with a foundation in emotion, attachment and somatic concepts including parts work and Brainspotting.
We can find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, on edge or disconnected. It can look like anxiety, perfectionism, overthinking, difficulty with emotions or people pleasing. Or be the result of adverse childhoods, relational/past trauma, inequity, burnout or feeling different. I wholeheartedly believe we all have the ability to have fulfilling relationships, to experience joy and to lead meaningful lives. Sometimes we just need guidance on reconnecting with our true selves and a sense of purpose, or support in rebuilding resilience. This is where my role as your therapist is immensely invaluable and rewarding.

IN-PERSON & ONLINE: You may be functioning on the outside—but internally feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck. Many of the people I work with are managing a lot, yet feel tense, on edge, or unsure of how to move forward without pushing themselves harder. I work with individuals and couples dealing with anxiety, chronic stress, major life changes, medical diagnoses such as cancer, or that quiet sense of being stuck. My approach is practical, collaborative, and mind-body based—focused on helping your system settle so real change can happen. Experience more than talk therapy - walk away with tools you can use outside of session.

You are the decision-maker. The problem-solver. The one others depend on. You operate at a high level, manage significant responsibility, and deliver results. From the outside, you appear composed and capable. Internally, you may feel anxious, burned out or emotionally shut down. High performance often masks unprocessed stress, unresolved trauma, and chronic pressure. Over time, this shows up as exhaustion, disconnection, strained relationships, or reliance on alcohol or other coping strategies to take the edge off. We can help you.

You've spent so much of your life trying to "fit in" and be the person everyone else wants you to be. Maybe you don't remember when the need for approval became a critical voice, or when you started to tear yourself apart every time you made a mistake. Maybe you find it hard how to say "no" to someone else, no matter how stressed-out it made you feel. Maybe you don't even remember a time you didn't feel like this. Either way, one thing is for sure: you're ready to feel some relief, and put an end to your sense of overwhelm, guilt, and obligation. You want to stop doubting yourself and actually own your time and enjoy your life.

Do you often feel hijacked by insecurity, self doubt or anxiety? Are you longing for healthier connections and ease in your relationships? We are the way we are for good reasons. I validate and respect how you may have acquired certain behaviours and stances in order to deal with life’s challenges. At the same time, helping you adopt new, more constructive and effective patterns is one of the most exciting parts of therapy (for us both!). Whether you are dealing with a new concern or a long-standing issue, together we can identify the contributing factors so you can step forward with greater confidence and freedom.

If you’re feeling stuck in painful patterns, weighed down by anxiety, grief, or past trauma, or struggling to connect in your relationships, you’re not broken—you’re human. Many of the people we work with at Lotus Therapy & Counselling Centre feel like they’re carrying emotions too big to hold alone. They’ve spent years trying to push through, make sense of it all, or just "be strong," only to find themselves exhausted, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. We go beyond traditional talk therapy to tackle the root causes of your struggles, not just the symptoms.

Brainspotting Counsellors
How does brainspotting work?
Brainspotting works by using eye positioning to identify and process traumatic memories so that a client is better able to move forward and live with less fear. The theory behind brainspotting is that by identifying where a person looks when thinking of traumatic memories, a therapist will be able to guide them to focus on that spot and work with the client to get them out of the “fight, flight, freeze” response associated with the traumatic memory.

Is brainspotting an evidence-based therapy?
Brainspotting is a theory-based alternative therapy. It is one of the newest forms of treatment, so very little research has been completed that examines the mechanism by which it works. The theory behind brainspotting is that eye position can be linked to areas of the brain that store and process memory.

How effective is brainspotting?
Because it is such a new treatment, the effectiveness of brainspotting cannot be quantified. Some people have found it to be effective on its own, or in conjunction with other types of therapy. It is considered an alternative therapy, and it is popular with people for whom more traditional therapies have proven ineffective.

How long does brainspotting take to work?
A typical brainspotting session will last between 60 to 90 minutes. There is no required number of sessions needed to complete brainspotting therapy, but in many cases it is delivered over the course of about six sessions. Clients are encouraged to rate their level of distress prior to a session and again following a session, and to track progress.
