Hello, and welcome to this healing space. I work with clients experiencing difficulties in various sectors of life, such as emotional regulation, depression and anxiety, and clients working through trauma, identity and relationship related issues. I work with many international, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ clients. Together, we embark on a healing journey led by the client, of which I am there to help them navigate the roads of their minds, while the client remains the driver at every point. I aim to offer a space where you can express whatever is on your mind without fear of judgement, and where you can feel safe to open up.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent years leading in healthcare while living with the kind of internal pressure you may be carrying now. I know what it’s like to keep functioning, meeting expectations, and showing up, while feeling mentally overloaded or emotionally shut down.
You might look fine on the outside, but inside you feel tense, flat, self-critical, or stuck in patterns you can’t quite shift on your own. You’re thoughtful and capable, but something feels off, and pushing harder hasn’t helped. If you’ve been holding a lot together while quietly struggling, you’re not alone.

My biggest inspiration has always been people. Over the past decade, I’ve found real joy in supporting individuals, couples and families to deepen emotional awareness, build understanding and compassion and move toward goals that feel meaningful.
I’ve supported people through major life transitions and significant mental health challenges and I especially connect with marginalised and racialised folk. Many of the people I work with feel out of step with what society expects of them and together we work to de-gaslight those narratives, reconnect with inner resources and shape a future that actually aligns with their values.

You are the decision-maker. The problem-solver. The one others depend on.
You operate at a high level, manage significant responsibility, and deliver results. From the outside, you appear composed and capable. Internally, you may feel anxious, burned out or emotionally shut down.
High performance often masks unprocessed stress, unresolved trauma, and chronic pressure. Over time, this shows up as exhaustion, disconnection, strained relationships, or reliance on alcohol or other coping strategies to take the edge off. We can help you.

I am a Jamaican living in Vancouver. As a recent immigrant, I am aware of how the process and experience of forging a new life can bring both satisfaction and distress especially in intimate relationships. Life transitions can cause emotional stress and often, we need help to tap into our own inherent strengths. Sexuality and sexual behaviours can also be challenging for some but, I am passionate about working with individuals and couples of all genders, orientations, races and ethnicities. I also specialize in addictions which I view as a maladaptive coping skill for traumatic situations.

My practice focuses on the therapeutic power of the arts using self-exploration, creative expression, and play. I work with individuals and groups who are experiencing life transitions, challenges, creative blocks or interested in alternatives to talk therapy. I support children and adolescents facing behavioral issues or having difficulty relating to their peers and family. In groups, we explore the richness and challenges of coexistence through alternative, broader forms of dialogue and exploration. I am also a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner providing trauma counselling and supporting emotional and nervous system regulation.

Throughout our lives we go through experiences that help define who we are. These moments of connection and isolation, fulfillment and confusion are foundational events that make us, us. These can be life altering experiences; societal forces, traumatic events, complicated relationships, or a series of distressing events that we carry for the rest of our lives. Working through these experiences can be scary. Therapy can help us unpack these moments to lead more meaningful and fulfilling lives. In our sessions, we will explore who you are; your world, beliefs, and values.

As a Black Canadian, why might I wish to see a therapist who is Black Canadian?
Black Canadian clients may seek out Black Canadian therapists for several reasons, foremost being a sense of cultural understanding and the possibility of shared experiences. Cultural sensitivity and context on the part of the therapist may make it easier to form a therapeutic alliance and to focus on the work of therapy without the need to explain or educate a therapist on cultural matters. It may also be empowering to work with a therapist who shares one’s racial or ethnic background. It is important to note that a therapist who demonstrates cultural sensitivity can be highly effective even if they do not share a client’s background or race.
Can clients benefit from working with a therapist who shares their race or ethnicity?
Yes, having a therapist who shares a client’s race or ethnicity is often valuable, especially if it fosters a strong therapeutic alliance between the two. While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic effectiveness. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who has an understanding of a client’s background and perhaps also shared life experiences. It should be noted that many clients form a strong bond with their therapist regardless of their race or ethnicity. This is a personal decision, and it depends on the therapist, the client, and the connection between the two.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with Black Canadian clients?
Clients can ask therapists directly about their experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds, including with Black Canadian individuals. You may wish to inquire whether a therapist has undertaken training in cultural competence broadly, and how specifically they would ensure that their approach is sensitive to the needs of Black Canadian clients. Therapy involves honesty and trust, so it’s best for clients to share concerns about their therapist’s cultural competence at the outset. And a good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals based on the concerns you articulate.
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
It’s important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive because everyone comes to therapy with a unique background and set of experiences. Being aware of culture and cultural differences between people is important for understanding clients, as is coming to therapy with an open mind, recognising that the therapist doesn’t necessarily understand everything and that the client can help guide the way.
Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?
The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
