My approach is deeply trauma-informed, attachment-based , and rooted in anti-oppressive practice.
My name is Elise. I was born and raised in Ontario where I studied psychology and neuroscience at University of Guelph, and obtained a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from University of Toronto. I am currently a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in good standing with BCCSW. Life is full of ups and downs, and I have a passion for supporting folks through times of challenge, change, and loss. I know that with support we can emerge from difficult chapters with deeper self-awareness, and rediscovered resilience.

AEDP is an attachment-based , experiential treatment model ideally suited to address and treat relational trauma.
My work is relational, emotion-focused, and experiential. Relational means establishing a unique and real connection with people — i.e. not being a “blank slate” therapist. Emotion-focused means helping people pay attention to old emotional patterns that may no longer be serving them. Experiential means going beyond just talking about patterns. It means offering actual in-session experiences of doing things a different way — working together to form new and preferred patterns that are conducive to one’s therapy goal(s).

I am an integrative therapist, who combines ideas/techniques from different therapeutic schools of thought, such as systemic therapy, self-compassion/mindfulness-based therapy, CBT, analytical psychology, attachment-based therapy, and others.
Many of my clients identify as 2slgbtqia+, immigrant/refugees, and/or neurodivergent with ADHD or autism. Clients should expect to become more aware of themselves: their wants, their thoughts, their emotions, and their bodies, which can make it easier for them to make decisions that are aligned with their values and intentions. Clients can have the chance to incorporate healthy habits and to develop new skills for their toolbox.

I’m a registered clinical counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, I have a Masters in Counselling Psychology, I’m trained in trauma-informed, somatic, relational, neuroscience, and attachment-based therapies and have a decade of experience in the field of mental health.
Hi! I’m Lauren (she/her). I’m here to help you heal, grow and thrive by tapping into the inner knowing and wisdom of your body and heart, and by encouraging you to step into your power and truth. The clients who seek me out are often on journeys of self discovery or facing life transitions that open up questions and possibilities about who they are, what matters most to them, and how they want to live. I was called to this work through my personal journey of owning my unique path in life, despite it being different than the societal expectations that I grew up with.

My approach to counselling is holistic (mind, body, and spirit), emotion-focused, attachment-based , person-centred, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive.
When we’re alone, facing what causes us pain and discomfort can be confusing and overwhelming. I believe that therapy is the doorway to self-knowing and that the most profound healing occurs when exploration happens in the presence of a safe and supportive other. My goal as a therapist is to provide a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where together we can explore and work through the difficult feelings, thoughts, and experiences that are impacting your personal functioning, relationships, and healing.

I tailor my approach to the unique needs of each individual but fundamentally, it is Emotion-Focused and Attachment-Based .
Life can be challenging and often we go through experiences, both internal and external, that leave us struggling and feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and alone. As a therapist, I hope to create a place for you to feel welcomed, accepted, and understood so that together we can take on some of the challenges you might be wrestling with. My aim is for you to find hope, healing, and transformation through our work together so that you may rediscover joy and no longer have to face these challenges alone.

I utilize an integrative approach to treatment, combining psychotherapy (looking at the past to make sense of the present), cognitive behavioural therapy (identifying belief structures we may have that are no longer working for us), attachment-based theories (visiting childhood), and somatic approaches (tapping into the internal signals our bodies send us).
Whether you are looking to acknowledge areas of yourself that you have avoided in the past, or to better understand your moods, relationships, and current challenges, together we will create a space to explore these parts of you. I believe that we were not meant to carry things alone, and that healing and growth look different for everyone. Together, we can make space to process what it is that needs your attention, so you can feel more aligned with the version of you that you've been disconnected from.

I understand how messy, intimidating, and overwhelming therapy can be, which is why I aim to provide a supportive, non-judgemental counselling environment for all my clients. I work from an Attachment-based perspective, with an emphasis on Solution-Focused principles, Mindfulness, psychoeducation, and cognitive reframing. My favourite part of therapy is getting to work with clients to identify core beliefs and challenge those negative thoughts, particularly when it comes to self-worth. Additionally, I often draw upon tangible principles from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).

Joyce’s clinical approach is through the attachment-based lens of Emotion Focused Therapy.
It is an honour and privilege to walk alongside people as they navigate times when they may feel pain, confusion, or stuckness. The values I bring into the counselling space are acceptance, an environment where safety can be felt, and collaborating with them to learn about how their distress is impacting them and working together with them in strengthening their sense of themselves and their relationships. In my work with my clients, I also value celebrating triumphs as they work towards being the person they want to be.

Accepting new clients. My aim is to provide a trusting, nonjudgmental space in which you feel comfortable sharing your story. While there is innate wisdom within all of us, our ability to see the way forward can become clouded when we become overwhelmed. A deep exploration of one’s internal experience can be freeing, and provide valuable insight into (often unconscious) patterns of relating to the self and others. We will work collaboratively from an attachment-based , client-centred orientation. Drawing connections between your past experiences and your present situation will help us identify how best to meet your future goals.

We come into this world “wired for connection”. As a baby our survival depends on feeling connected to others and as we grow it’s this CONNECTION that allows us not only to survive but also grow and flourish. Sadly, many of us from very early on, suffer from what’s known as “attachment trauma”: a break or disconnection from those we needed for survival that is left unhealed and instead activates our attachment defenses. The effects of this trauma are far reaching: you might be struggling with anxiety, depression, anger issues, relationship difficulties, issues in parenting, exhaustion/burn-out, feeling low, lifeless, or numb.

I draw on somatic, emotion focused and attachment-based therapies to broaden your understanding of your experience, help you discover your inner strength and foster self-compassion.
I see psychotherapy as a chance to come back to yourself. When faced with challenges in life we can forget our strengths, values, and sense of self. Psychotherapy offers the chance to rediscover these things and uncover more. Together we can navigate life’s challenges while building new skills and resilience to create a stronger sense of self. The therapy space that we create together is one where you can discuss anything and explore emotions, experiences, thoughts, and behaviours in a space and relationship that is safe, supportive, and dedicated to your well-being.

Hello, I'm Niki, very nice to meet you. Chances are you are noticing that some things in your life just aren't working anymore. There are some life events that impact our emotional well-being. Sometimes they are easier to overcome than others. Those that are not easily managed can lead to prolonged mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and others. In therapy, I can help you to work through the process of healing. I have a genuine and compassionate approach that I bring to each session. I hope to help you find emotional health.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
