It can be challenging to articulate our emotions and experiences - using art materials in therapy can help us express and more deeply understand ourselves. Art therapy can support those wishing to explore stress, anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, grief and loss, trauma, life direction, chronic illness and more. I aim to support each client as they grow and heal, restore internal balance and harmony, and connect with the sparks that align them with their most authentic and whole selves. Sessions combine talk therapy with art making - art expressions can offer wisdom and insight as clients embark on their therapeutic journey.

We can also weave in past life regression, hypnotherapy and art therapy into our work together if you feel called.
Are you feeling ready for a deeper layer of healing? I am a somatic soul-based therapist who approaches therapy and healing from an embodied, compassionate, empowering, trauma-informed, and holistic perspective. By taking a compassionate & non-pathologizing approach: You are not seen as being broken, flawed or needing to be fixed. We will explore your symptoms together (such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, people-pleasing, over-working, perfectionism, shame, chronic illness...) and discover their hidden messages, stories & wisdom. This will guide the way to deeper and more long-lasting healing/growth.

Art therapy offers a voice to these inner experiences and an avenue to connect more deeply with the self and others.
Hello and welcome I approach my work as a counsellor and art therapist with the philosophy that every human being is the expert in their own life, and holds an innate capacity and wisdom for healing. I like to think of therapy as a journey on which I am a fellow traveller, walking alongside you with genuine compassion, curiosity, and acceptance. I will offer support and encouragement on this journey and create a space for connection, expression, and discovery. I am particularly passionate about combining psychotherapy and art therapy to work with folks who find that words alone are limiting.

Deeply rooted in culture appreciation, I support the healing process of individuals and groups through the free exploration of art modalities with a respectful, trauma-informed, non-oppressive and intersectional approach.
I am passionate about empowering people to break the cycles of trauma. My focus is working with women and mothers of young children, offering them a space free of judgement to explore their emotions, memories and re-connect with their inner strength. With the use of curiosity as an important tool, we look at new possibilities of self-perception and awareness of the impacts that trauma may have caused on the nervous system. The discoveries done in sessions build into internal resources that can be accessed outside of the therapy room, reinforcing the person's sense of agency.

Having ancestry from the Mi’kmaq people of Newfoundland and the English people of Bath, I use the teachings of the medicine wheel as a foundation for my personal and professional life. I believe that making art can be a practice that supports physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. When we make art , we can experience our stories and our struggles in a new way. This can open the door for creating deeper connections with our bodies, with those around us and in our communities. My mission is to guide people in honouring their stories and reclaiming their connections in order to live more whole and meaningful lives.

Art therapy and somatic therapy are intuitive ways to connect with our experiences and internal process.
I have been supporting families and individuals at a non-profitable organization in Vancouver for the past 5 years while doing private practice for over 7 years as a counselling art therapist. Combining my training in hypnotherapy and mindfulness based somatic therapy, people I support find ways to deepen connections with both their internal and external experiences in the healing process. My experience as an immigrant and growing up in different cultures help me to understand others' unique paths and cultural diversity. I speak fluent Mandarin and Cantonese. I am always fascinated by the stories and resources people share.

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
