Welcome! I'm Jessie.
A little bit about me is that I immigrated to Canada when I was 5, and grew up across a mix of cities.
In my own communities, I’ve seen the impact of generations of trauma and low mental health support. It’s not easy trying to navigate everything all at once: your environment, your people, yourself.
My hope is to help you write a different future from the history handed to you.

All over the world people experience suffering. You may have experienced a traumatic event that is remembered, causing distress and compromising your functioning. Or the memory of such an event may be long lost in your past. Current distress is often about coping in ways that no longer function. Very often the face of unrecognized trauma is anxiety and depression. The good news is that it is not necessary to know of and recount specific events to recover. Together, we can uncover what's no longer serving you, focusing on your present experience to create space for growth, balance and well-being.

Are you thoughtful, self-aware, and still anxious in love? Maybe you read, reflect, and work hard on yourself; yet in relationships you overgive, overthink, or fear being too much or not enough. You learned early that love required earning, so you perform, prove, or hide parts of you to stay connected. Conflict feels threatening, distance feels unbearable, and your nervous system stays on alert. Beneath it all, you long to feel secure, chosen, and at home in yourself. I help you understand your attachment patterns, heal old relational wounds, calm anxiety, and build love rooted in self-trust, safety, and emotional intimacy.

As a registered therapeutic counsellor and art therapist I believe in harnessing the creative process to help unearth things in our subconscious that we might have not realized just by talking it out or by thinking it through via regular talk therapy.
Think of art therapy as the creative, cool aunt of regular talk therapy. And yes, we also talk in sessions — the creative process just directs us into the conversation.
I work with anyone experiencing overwhelm and specialize in perfectionism, chronic pain, invisible illnesses such as fibromyalgia, and those grieving the loss of a beloved pet.

Art Therapy Counsellors
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
