I support couples wanting to strength their connection, as well as individuals navigating relationship challenges, trauma, and anxiety.
You’re ready to stop feeling disconnected from your partner. Despite your best intentions, conversations keep going sideways and you end up back in the same argument again. It’s frustrating to feel stuck, not knowing how to bridge the distance between you. You care about each other, but miscommunication and accidentally pushing each other’s buttons sometimes gets in the way of enjoying your time together.

I specialize in treating Type-C Personalities (Conscientious/Competent/Self-Controlled). These tend to be people who are dedicated hard-workers, concerned about the welfare of others, and wanting to ensure that they are doing “the right thing”. Driven by strong internal values and principles, they often get hard on themselves, believing that they can “always do more”. This can complicate things for them--at work, at home, and in relationships--as while they take pride for being dependable/reliable individuals, they struggle to open up to others. This can lead to burnout, a felt sense of loneliness and isolation, and chronic pain.

I work with people grappling with lifelong guilt, anxiety, relational wounds, and complex trauma.
Accepting new virtual clients. If you’ve been carrying invisible burdens, whether it’s guilt, grief, generational pain, or the need to be strong, you’re not alone. Many of us were taught to hold it all in order to survive or feel accepted and worthy, yet what goes unspoken often lingers within us. Perhaps it’s grief that has no place to go, shame shaped by family history, or the loneliness of being unseen. Therapy can be a safe refuge away from the noise and expectations of others, to breathe, reflect, and come back to yourself.

I believe therapy is a collaborative and supportive space between you and I, in which we can work together to identify and achieve your goals. The therapy room is a space for you to feel safe and comfortable. By creating that, we can then work together to peel back the layers of who you are, explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and work on making positive changes in your life. I take a holistic approach to therapy, as this allows me to consider many factors that can impact your mental health and well-being. By considering your past experiences, childhood, environment, intersectionality and identity.

When I first meet new clients and we talk about what’s bringing them into counselling, they share issues of worry, avoidance, frustration, people pleasing, difficulties with motivation, feeling stuck, or challenges in their relationships.
I work from a trauma and attachment informed approach. We want to explore your past to learn about the patterns, behaviours, and beliefs that may be barriers to your growth in the present. I help clients learn to sit with difficult emotions differently and respond to challenges the way they want to. I often use CBT, person centred, and EMDR therapies.

Anxiety Counsellors
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
