I begin with discovering who you are, your childhood and present reality, your sadness, joy, anger, fears and shame.
I have 22 years experience helping people, 12 of those working through video therapy worldwide. Our emotions often rule our actions. Unfortunately these emotions can be based on deep rooted beliefs that no longer fit our reality, even be destructive. In therapy, we will work together to ‘uproot’ these beliefs and perceptions that are holding you back. I also work a lot with communication, both our inner and outer dialogues. The goal of therapy is to guide you to greater maturity and growth. I offer art therapy online. Often we can not find the words to express how we feel, art or doodling can provide, through images, these ‘words’.

Sometimes life feels very overwhelming and we can feel lost and disconnected, or even struggle with our self-worth. I work with couples and individuals who want to understand their behaviours and improve their communication and connection. You may struggle with your romantic relationships or friendships, or find yourself repeating the same patterns with different people in your life. Sometimes you feel anxious in your relationships, or don't feel connected at all. You may want to feel more at ease in your relationships with others and especially with yourself, experiencing less anxiety and feeling grounded when making decisions.

I have been working extensively with individuals dealing with anxiety , depression, life transitions, environmental angst and addictions support.
I was drawn to the role of therapist through my own transformative therapeutic and life journey. This life changing experience inspired me to first complete a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in preparation for my Masters of Counselling degree. I have previously worked and supported people through the arts, not for profit and service sectors, with community at the core of my work. The constant threads being integrity, determination and connection. I believe my range of experiences has helped to expand my worldview and compassion for others.

Do you often feel hijacked by insecurity, self doubt or anxiety ? Are you longing for healthier connections and ease in your relationships? We are the way we are for good reasons. I validate and respect how you may have acquired certain behaviours and stances in order to deal with life’s challenges. At the same time, helping you adopt new, more constructive and effective patterns is one of the most exciting parts of therapy (for us both!). Whether you are dealing with a new concern or a long-standing issue, together we can identify the contributing factors so you can step forward with greater confidence and freedom.

My passion is working with people who have experienced difficult or traumatic events that continue to impact their daily lives and relationships. I work with adults who might have experienced sexual assault, childhood abuse or neglect, or a difficult loss or breakup and continue to feel the effects of anxiety , stress, low mood, sleep difficulties, and might have difficulty making decisions, speaking up for oneself, or setting boundaries. I work with people who want to get more out of life, express themselves fully, and show their authentic self to the world. At the end of the day, all humans deserve to be seen, heard, and accepted.

Specialties include: depression and anxiety ; trauma/history of abuse; problems in relationships (intimate, family, and work-related); men's issues/building healthy masculinity; history of psychosis, mental illness or disordered eating.
At the heart of this therapeutic practice is the idea that problems lie between you and others as opposed to within you. How do you relate to your loved ones, strangers, and the world at large? Questions such as these will help you understand not only what you could change in your life, but also how to change it. The cultivation of truth occurs through building lasting trust: This is the core of working effectively towards solutions and change together. A heart of non-judgment, encouragement, empowerment, and tools are provided so that you can work through trauma from the past as well as practice new ways of living in the world.

We will work together to help you understand how the past contributes to present-day feelings of anxiety , sadness, or other unhealthy coping patterns.
If you are feeling stuck in your past, old ways of coping, or are replaying painful memories I want you to know that there is hope for your future. I work with many people, who, like you, each have unique stories, and have done their best to push forward and to leave their hurts behind. You may be surrounded by people, and yet feel a longing in your life for deeper connection and relationships. You might even feel disconnected from yourself, your body, and others. Perhaps you have tried to cope with the distress by turning to substances, food, self-harm, shopping, work, or other ways of feeling in control.

Anxiety Counsellors

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
