“Life is brutiful” - Glennon Doyle….There are times in life when we need support to process and navigate these brutal moments, to be able to weed through the muck and uncover the beauty and joy in our lives. It's an honour to support and witness in this journey. I have over 20 years experience and knowledge as a Mental Health clinician and educator. I’ve worked with young people, individuals and couples. I am a registered counsellor with a Masters in Expressive Arts Therapy and certified in Relational Somatic therapy.

Divine Alchemy (formerly Bliss Mental Health) is at a new location at 518 Lake Street, Suite 203. I believe that all human beings have a remarkable ability to grow and change. Some clients come to me with a great deal of depression or hopelessness about their lives without the insight as to how they can be helped. I use a strengths-based approach as I listen to their stories to find the hope, possibilities, and resiliencies that coexist alongside suffering and insecurities. Therapies are evidenced-based and trauma informed and approach clients from a spiritual and cultural lens.

Are you struggling to reach goals that you’ve set for yourself? From looking to improve our relationships, our careers or even our performance in a sport, life has a way of challenging us on our paths to achieving success. Struggles with anxiety or depression, or suffering through grief, loss and trauma can make it feel like your goals are always out of reach. While drive, grit and determination are important to personal and athletic success, having the support of others is integral to navigating challenges and developing the skills you need for optimal mental, emotional and physical health.

I wear many hats and consider myself a forever learner. I am an integrative therapist who uses Ayurveda, yoga, and body-focused psychotherapy techniques to support healing. I am dedicated to these practices as they provide me with the groundedness and centeredness to show up with an open-hearted, embodied, and compassionate presence. I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, cooking using whole foods, being in nature, and creating through artistic endeavours. I would say I am playful, and eccentric, with a good sense of humour. I look forward to connecting with you on your healing journey!

As a generalist, my intention is to provide broad service. I am currently employed as a college instructor, so I enjoy working with adolescent and early adult age people who may be dealing with anxiety or depression, or who find themselves stuck in making important life decisions. Also, one of my previous jobs was as a welder for CP Rail. So I am familiar with the very real issues faced in everyday work life. My training also includes family and couples therapy. Because I believe that we do not do well in isolation, helping individuals and families deal with the intricacies of family life is a vital to aspect of my practice.

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
