My wide ranging exposure to several
trauma focused
therapeutic skills such as Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (training in progress), Trauma informed yoga, Sand-tray, Mindfulness, Process Experiential therapy, Internal Family Systems, CBT, Hypnotherapy and the Satir Growth Model allows me to deliver an integrative approach, specific to your needs.
My unique approach to therapy is based on psychodynamic, attachment focused and trauma informed theory. Specifically, I look at present dysfunction as stemming from relational trauma, particularly from early childhood experiences. Working through this lens, allows me to bring about inner healing that has a more has long lasting impact. I believe that human nature is too complex to be resolved with one therapeutic approach.

I am trained in dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and
trauma focused
cognitive behavioural therapy (TF-CBT).
Hi, my name is Kaitlyn and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Over the past 10 years, I have had the honour of working with teens, adults and seniors struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, self-harm, suicidal ideation, emotion regulation, attachment, relational difficulties and more. I believe emotional and physical safety to be critical components in fostering a trusting and therapeutic relationship throughout sessions. This ensures that the therapeutic journey is reparative rather than re-traumatizing.

As a skeptic myself, I'm amazed at the inner healing I've experienced after finding the right counsellor! As a trained trauma therapist, my aim is to connect with you on a deep level so you can feel safe, seen and secure in each session. I'm drawn to work with individuals and couples who are struggling with PTSD, attachment trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and intimacy/communication issues.

Seeking counselling could be a life changing experience and could be scary as well. Esther came from a culture that did not necessary see counselling as needed and so going through her own journey of finding a counsellor felt scary, overwhelming, and at times discouraging. Over the years of Esther's career, she has met people with similar fears and have had some ask the following question, " how do I find the right therapist that understands me, sees me, and could connect with me in creating a healing space that feels right for me". This is where Esther comes in with her experience to support you in finding what feels right.

You are likely searching for a therapist because there is something in your life that is not working well. You may be feeling overwhelmed, distressed, hopeless, or noticing things in your life or in your relationships that you no longer find satisfying. Therapy provides time to consider who you are; it is a collaborative conversation that helps you to explore the ways your experiences have shaped your beliefs, feelings, and assumptions, and to identify the factors which prevent you from making the changes you desire in your life.

How can I find a therapist in Surrey?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
