Difficulties with mood, anxiety, stress and relationships can be improved by working with an effective trauma therapist.
As a trained trauma therapist, my approach gets to the root of your long-standing problems. Experiences of stress and trauma leave lasting impacts on the brain, body and psyche, disrupting our mood, energy, and thinking patterns. These impacts can not be undone by “talk therapy” alone. In addition to being a talk therapist, I am trained in a variety of neurobiologically-based trauma processing therapies. These techniques can release the impacts of stress and trauma, freeing you to pursue the life you want. If you’ve been feeling stuck, discouraged and overwhelmed, consider whether stress and trauma have been holding you back.

"Life has many ways of testing a person's will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen all at once.” ― Paulo Coelho. We have the ability as humans to overcome adversity, trauma and life altering stressors. You may clearly know what is bothering you or it may be deep in your unconscious, regardless, there needs to be a feeling. Whether the feeling is the desire for change or the awareness that you need help; it is the first step in your healing. The goal is to process the feelings that hold you back, thus freeing up space for positive memories, healthy coping, and self compassion.

I look at trauma symptoms as stemming from psychological wounds experienced in the context of early childhood experiences.
The physical & emotional habits developed in the context of your traumatic life experiences have constrained your capacity to live your life fully. Your attempts to live to the true potential you carry within, leave you frustrated. You feel alone, misunderstood and overwhelmed - like the emotional rollercoasters you are on will never relent. You end up often turning your present and future into a version of the past! If this describes how you feel, take a breath - what you are experiencing are best described as trauma responses. Therapy can offer tremendous possibilities for healing & growth. Why not experience it for yourself?

Her areas of expertise are youth (13+), young adults, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, the impacts of stress and/or trauma, life transitions and relationship challenges.
Life is a journey that brings about many events and circumstances in our lives, some of which may be painful, confusing, and traumatizing. This can leave us feeling stuck, afraid, lonely, and disconnected from ourselves and others. Jess believes that through genuine connection and support, we can heal, grow, and become more fully ourselves. Jess is passionate about walking alongside others who are in pain by creating a safe, trusting, and non-judgemental relationship in order to help them heal and grow. It is through these kinds of relationships that we can explore past and current events that are causing distress and pain.

My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, and tailored to your specific, unique needs.
Life can be challenging, and sometimes we need someone to lean on. I'm here to listen and support you in a non-judgemental way. Our main goal is to help you curate strong self-awareness so that we can explore how your current functioning is impacted by the patterns you've learned early in life. Sometimes these ingrained, automatic habits no longer serve us, so together we can start creating new responses that better fit your current self!

I have extensive EMDR training, and I integrate a range of evidence-based and trauma-informed modalities into my clinical work, including principles of attachment theory and mindfulness practice.
Welcome! It takes courage and strength to reach out for support. Maybe you're here because you need someone to talk to you, or just need someone to listen. Or, maybe you're here because there are parts of you that are getting in the way of the life you envisioned for yourself. Trauma is very good at keeping you in the past, and can stop you from recognizing who you are right now and who you might want to become in the future. Together, let's re-create the story trauma constructed about you, and integrate a storyline that is meaningful and empowering.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
