Socrates said "to find yourself, think for yourself". Our thoughts shape our perceptions and often affects how we may respond to experiences. We have been conditioned for approval, acceptance and worthiness, how we internalize this programming into our conscious and subconscious minds can lead to self doubt, self criticism and self sabotaging choices. These thoughts become patterns and beliefs that often get played out in how we function in relationships. Learn how to honor your unmet needs, to find healthier ways of managing these conflicts and ways to deepen your connection to self. Awaken yourself to new possibilities.

You've spent years trying to understand yourself and you're good at it. But understanding hasn't been enough to shift the patterns that keep showing up. Maybe you were recently diagnosed with ADHD, autism, or AuDHD, or you're starting to wonder if that's part of your story. Maybe complex trauma or C-PTSD has shaped how you move through the world in ways that are hard to explain. You hold it together on the outside while feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or chronically misunderstood on the inside. I offer neurodivergent-affirming therapy for adults across BC and Ontario. If this sounds like you, reach out.

You may have spent years caring for everyone else and feel worn down in a way rest doesn’t fix. You might feel overwhelmed, overthinking, and trying to hold too much. Maybe you live with chronic pain, illness, or neurodivergence, and you’re tired of feeling scattered or as though life is just “too much.” You want a quiet, supportive space where you can slow down, feel understood, and reconnect with the parts of yourself you’ve had to set aside. Mostly, you want relief, clarity, and a way forward that feels gentler and more true to you.

Some people carry the weight of two worlds, the one they were born into and the one they’re trying to build. They’ve spent years untangling guilt from love, expectation from identity, and silence from peace. These are the folks who crave emotional clarity, grounded boundaries, and a life that finally feels like theirs.

Schema Therapy Counsellors
How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?
Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?
Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognising and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
