I have supported individuals impacted by eating disorders for nearly a decade.
Do you struggle with your relationship with food and your body? Have you ever wished you could find peace from food stress, anxiety, and guilt? Have you ever wondered whether it was possible to feel confident in a body while carrying the weight of the world's judgements and pressures? Body and food peace is a radical pursuit in the face of diet culture and weight stigma, and it is a journey I would be honored to navigate together with you. I work with my clients to explore body image shame, diet culture, intuitive eating, emotion regulation, and authentic living.

I can support you as you look within to explore a variety of issues including: Low self-esteem, shame, and stigma; Trauma and grief; Marriage, parenting, divorce, and complex family relationships; Life transitions, such as career changes or new relationships; Depression and anxiety; and Eating disorders and body image struggles.
Clarity. Understanding. Acceptance. These are all things we want for ourselves but, occasionally, the mirror of our mind becomes clouded and tarnished by anxiety, depression, trauma, and a variety of other life struggles. This can distort how we see ourselves, people around us, and the potential for our future. We can work together to shift your view, restore clarity and hope for the present, and bring new possibilities for a transformed future into focus.

I have worked with a diverse range of presenting issues within the school system and non-profit organizations, some include: anxiety, depression, OCD, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, eating disorders, perfectionism, burnout, and childhood trauma.
Hi! I'm Dominique. Life can get tricky and I understand that speaking to someone about it may be difficult. Finding the right words to describe how you feel or what you have experienced can be challenging, and it should not be something that one should have to experience on their own. With my understanding that each individual has their own unique story and experiences, I tend to take a person-centered in counselling in which I alter my clinical skills to fit the needs and preferences of my client. I am attentive to each client's biological, environmental, and social factors and consider them when applying therapeutic approaches.

Hurting people hurt people, but they also tend to hurt themselves in the long run. The need for an unbiased and non-judgemental person to talk to can serve to provide a sense of relief from the stress you may be facing in the moment. I believe that is what we may need in our lives, and I am able to serve you in this area. For whatever your needs may be, I will tailor the treatment plan accordingly and strive to find the best approach to meet them.

I am also trained in a number of therapeutic modalities including EMDR, OEI, Lifespan Integration Therapy and DBT to support trauma processing, eating disorder recovery and mental health healing.
If you are feeling stuck in your past, old ways of coping, or are replaying painful memories I want you to know that there is hope for your future. I work with many people, who, like you, each have unique stories, and have done their best to push forward and to leave their hurts behind. You may be surrounded by people, and yet feel a longing in your life for deeper connection and relationships. You might even feel disconnected from yourself, your body, and others. Perhaps you have tried to cope with the distress by turning to substances, food, self-harm, shopping, work, or other ways of feeling in control.

There are times where the challenges we face in our daily lives become too difficult to manage on our own. I can help navigate those who are looking to add meaning and purpose to their lives, generating motivation, and regaining control. The ability to achieve wellness and stability in our lives, exists somewhere inside of us. The disconnection we experience from the things that bring us happiness and joy may cause us to feel overwhelmed and paralyzed by stress. My aim is to provide a supportive, non-judgemental, and safe environment to help support you through life’s difficulties that may have you feeling stuck and under pressure.

My ideal client is someone feeling out of balance—physically, emotionally, or both. They may be dealing with stress, anxiety, burnout, or chronic symptoms that don’t have clear medical answers. They’re seeking a more holistic and culturally mindful path to healing. They want to better manage their emotions, restore mind-body harmony, and build sustainable self-care routines. Most of all, they’re looking for lasting change—not just symptom relief—through a personalized approach that integrates emotional tools, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and modern wellness strategies.

Eating Disorders Counsellors
What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
