I work from an attachment-based perspective, helping you to understand when and how these problems began.
Are you and your partner stuck in a cycle of conflict that feels impossible to get out of? Does one of you withdraw or shut down while the other just wants to talk things out? If it feels like you are stuck in a rut and having the same arguments over and over again, counselling can help. Problems in our relationships often stem from problems within ourselves. You may be feeling anxious, lonely or depressed and this is affecting your confidence and how you relate to your partner, friends and family.

I practice from a relational, attachment-based perspective and intentionally incorporate therapeutic approaches that support my clients as they navigate life’s challenges and work towards achieving their goals.
There is nothing more beautiful to me than the rawness of the human spirit. No matter who we are, where we are from or where we go next, we carry narratives about ourselves that impact our experiences & the way we show up in the world. Humans are social beings, which means that the condition of our relationships directly influences our quality of life & overall wellness. However, many of us were never taught the importance of nurturing a strong and healthy relationship with the self, first. Without this relationship, we may be left wondering who we are, what matters most, and how to let go of what no longer serves us.

I operate from an attachment-based , emotion-focused, and trauma-informed framework.
Being human is beautifully weird, and painfully difficult. As a therapist, I am less interested in providing pat answers about this human experience, and more interested in creating shame-free spaces where we can lean into its mysteries and learn from it. I believe that therapy can be a transformational experience where we experience change as we are held and seen by another, and it is my great privilege to walk with those who are willing to share their stories with me.

Through a client centred, holistic, trauma-informed and attachment-based perspective, I integrate modalities to personalize therapy for each client.
No issue is too small or too big for counselling! Maybe you are dealing with past or present circumstances that have left you struggling to cope with your emotions, feeling anxious, stressed, or depressed. Perhaps you need help navigating big or small transitions or events in your life; these may be deeply painful or even wonderful, yet anxiety provoking. Struggling with pregnancy/postpartum issues? Maybe you want to develop mind+body health, self-compassion and rediscover your true self. If you're ready to feel heard and supported and you're willing to engage in the counselling process with courage and openness, therapy can help.

Counsellor-Bryan Kim. People often seek out therapy when they are facing pain and uncertainty — as well they should — but working with a therapist doesn’t need to be something that only happens in a moment of crisis or at the breaking point of a relationship. Therapy is also ideal during times of transition when you simply need some extra support and perspective. You owe it to yourself to take time for focus and reflection. Emotional intelligence and healthy coping skills have extraordinary value, and you should consider therapy to be an investment in your own personal wisdom. You are the expert on your life.

Change can be daunting so you stay 'stuck' in situations that no longer serve you. Maybe life feels 'comfortable' but you feel unfulfilled. You wear a mask to hide the anxiety or unhappiness you feel. The emotional pain is blocking you from connecting with those closest to you. It may seem there is no hope, so you continue living an unsatisfied life. Maybe you have learned to get through difficult times alone, but are ready to further explore yourself and the relationships in your life. You want change, and to feel whole again. You want to connect with yourself, and feel confident in who you are.

I have been practicing as a clinical counsellor for almost 20 years. I have experience working with individuals who are hoping to make positive changes in their lives. My goal is to help you make those changes as effectively as possible. I believe individuals choose therapy when they have been unsuccessful in making changes on their own. A good therapist can both support you and guide you as you stay committed to the change process.

If you are feeling lost, disconnected or uncertain about life, you will find a safe space with me to explore your challenges in life with a supportive, empathic listener. When life gets challenging, many resort to using unhealthy coping strategies that can get you stuck; by getting curious about the stuck-ness together, we can work as a team to untangle the knots and shift back into your natural state of wholeness. If you have lost your centre, or feel unbalanced by the many demands of life you will benefit from counselling, as I will aim to help you return to your core Self and find passion and purpose in life.

I believe in connection over anything else. I work through an attachment and emotion focused lens, meaning that I emphasize the importance of your relationships, the growth of self through intention, and help identify those underlying emotions getting in your way and causing you to repeat the same life patterns. I work by bringing forward awareness, accessing unacknowledged emotions, creating change, and pointing out incongruences. My role is to help you feel understood, more informed, and hopeful.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
