I will probably laugh at your jokes. No, seriously! I think laughter is one of the most powerful ways we loosen the grip of fear and shame. Therapy doesn’t have to feel cold or clinical to be effective. You can expect me to be warm, steady, and straightforward with you. The hours we spend together matter. This isn't just another conversation, it's intentional work. Real change happens when two people sit down, tell the truth, and aren't alone in it. We’ll call those patterns out when they show up in session (and they will), not to shame you, but to understand them. When we can see what’s happening in real time, we can adjust.

Meaningful relationships are everything to me and a big part of why I became a therapist. When we feel safe, heard, and understood, we can work through challenging emotions and feel more connected to the different parts of ourselves. Whether you’ve experienced trauma, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, identity shifts, or just need an open ear, I’m here to support you on your healing journey. We will explore thoughts, patterns, and emotions and help you understand what your nervous system needs to feel more safe, regulated, and resourced in times of stress or conflict.

Being human is weird and messy. Maybe you feel stuck in self-doubt, anxiety, depression, or relationship struggles, wondering, why do I keep doing this? Maybe intimacy feels complicated, trauma keeps showing up in ways you don’t expect, or you’re just trying to figure out who you are and what you actually need. You want deeper self-trust, better emotional regulation, and connections that don’t feel like a rollercoaster. Most of all, you want to feel like you, without the weight of old patterns holding you back.

It takes a lot of courage to reach out for support and no one needs to feel alone in their struggles. I believe we can all benefit from having someone to share our challenges, with who is trained to help us find our confidence and strengths. I am honoured to be a part of that journey with my clients. When working with an individual I recognize each person's uniqueness and individual needs, therefore I customize my approach. My goal is to ensure my clients always feel safe and supported.

Hello! I'm Alejs, pronounced 'Alex'. You might enjoy working with me if you are a thoughtful, self-aware older youth or adult who feels stuck in emotional patterns that don't seem to shift, even after gaining insight or trying therapy before. You may be living with anxiety, depression, shame, chronic stress, or the impacts of relational or incident trauma, and be looking for deeper, lasting change—not just coping strategies. You’re drawn to a genuine, warm, non-pathologizing and focused approach where your struggles are met with curiosity and care, make sense in context, and can shift at a deeper, nervous-system level.

Working alongside individuals, couples, teenagers, and parents, I strive to help each client find clarity, ignite their inner strengths, and learn the tools that can help them push through the muck that life tends to pile in front of us. I have experience sitting with folks navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, adverse childhood experiences, and histories of self-harm. I also work with couples looking to recover their connection through improved communication, conflict resolution, and understanding their unique attachments. And, I work with parents as they wade through the overwhelming and heavy challenges of raising tiny humans

I support adult women who feel stuck in painful emotional patterns - whether that shows up as anxiety, self-doubt, relationship struggles, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or a sense of losing themselves in the needs of others. Many of my clients are navigating the impact of childhood experiences, unresolved attachment wounds, or long-standing behaviours that keep repeating in ways that no longer serve them. If you're wanting to understand yourself more deeply, build healthier boundaries, reconnect to your worth, heal old emotional patterns, or show up in relationships with more confidence and clarity, I can help get you there.

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
