I support caregivers who are navigating their own traumas simultaneously as they are navigating their children's needs. As a counsellor who has navigated traumas while also raising a child, I can tell you it is hard being the one who is healing while your parents may not be. I am going to tell you it is extremely brave work to look at the harms that have been done to you and not want to repeat patterns that were harmful for you. As a trauma-focused counsellor, we will be looking at your inner child that did not get what they needed and listening and addressing those needs, and bringing in deeper awareness to the self.

I’m Inge. I have always been deeply attuned to the emotional and spiritual undercurrents of life and relationships. Perhaps you’re here because you find yourself in a messy, dense, dark, or confusing moment. It would be my honour to sit in the muck with you and work together to make sense of your life.
I work from a depth psychological lens, rooted in the belief that the psyche has a natural instinct toward healing, wholeness, and growth. In this view, psychotherapy is a journey led by the client, and the memories, dreams, events, and ideas that arise in the process carve a pathway toward integration and vitality.

Life, as we know, is not static. No matter how well know ourselves, or how many resources we have in our corner, there will always be times when we are confronted by something that challenges us. Something that changes us. We may encounter loss, despair, confusion, hurt. We may struggle with the past or feel unsteady in the present. While moving through difficulty is part of our human experience, my belief is that none of us are meant to face it alone. This work, for me, is about bringing company, connection, and care to the parts of my clients lives that feel sealed off from worthiness, clarity, trust, and joy.

Nervous system regulation is a common term these days, but what does it mean? I work with individuals who carry the weight of past experiences in how they feel, respond, and move through life. They may struggle with anxiety, overwhelm, numbness, or patterns like people-pleasing and overworking. Some experience trauma responses like panic, dissociation, or feeling stuck, along with physical symptoms like chronic pain or fatigue. My clients are looking for lasting relief from repeating patterns and symptoms that are causing distress and disruption in their lives, or in other words, increased nervous system regulation.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
