The concentration of my practice is working with families who are experiencing conflict, difficult emotions, and/or concerning behaviors. How should we react or respond? What can we do to help and support? How do we make sense of these big emotions and behaviors? I work with individuals and families through a systemic approach that strives to develop empathy and understanding and answer these important questions. The core of my practice explores safety and trust using an attachment lens. Through these explorations, I have been helpful in fostering significant growth within relationships and family units.

After many years of working in healthcare and education in the U.K., the Netherlands and Canada, I realized that I wanted to help others more directly. I wanted to create a safe, understanding, caring, non-judgemental space for people to share their mental health journey with me. I have developed the skills and knowledge, through education at KCPC and through work with the Canadian Mental Health Association and as a BouncBack coach, to use an integrative approach to counselling to guide and support people to reach their mental health goals. This means that I will work with you to find the best way that works for you!

You're tired of just surviving and ready to design a life that feels worth living. Maybe trauma or substance use has kept you stuck in patterns that aren't serving you, or you're navigating cultural transitions while trying to figure out who you want to be. You might be dealing with anxiety, depression, anger or relationship issues, but you're not just looking to "cope better" - you want to create something meaningful. You're ready to dig deeper, understand the patterns, and build the life you actually deserve, not just the one you've settled for.

For the last ten years, I have been specializing in the treatment of anxiety, panic and OCD.
People often come to therapy with hopes of feeling happier and more fulfilled, yet the process of change can be frightening and uncomfortable. I want my clients to feel they are in the driver's seat, with access to the brake and gas. I am the passenger with the road map. I will guide their healing journey but they choose the direction and pace. I truly believe the only thing more frightening than 'change' is the status quo. Why settle? You deserve more!

- Will open waitlist March 2025 - I believe one of the most courageous things you can do is begin to understand your own story. I remember what it feels like to be on your side of the couch, overwhelmed by the idea of sharing my most vulnerable stories. When we've hit (or passed) the point of burnout, or we have a stressful experience like a loss or traumatic event, it can be hard to imagine finding joy or fulfillment again. You deserve a space to discover your strengths, make sense of your experiences, and find a meaningful path forward.

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
