You may be dealing with experiences that still feel present even if they happened a long time ago. Trauma doesn’t always show up as a clear memory—it often appears as anxiety, emotional overwhelm, shutdown, irritability, difficulty trusting others, or a persistent sense of being stuck in patterns you can’t quite shift. For many people, the challenge isn’t just what happened in the past—it’s how you and your nervous system adapted. You might find yourself functioning well on the outside while internally carrying tension, self-criticism, or a sense that something is not fully resolved.

I use a collaborative, person-centred approach. I am aware of the constraints and social inequalities people face, which act as both a cause of mental health issues and a barrier to receiving help. I work with those experiencing various concerns through a trauma-informed, social justice and anti-oppressive framework. I value healing through connection, sharing and community. Growth is a lifelong journey, and I provide a judgment-free safe space for clients to explore their inner world. Compassion, authenticity, and cultural sensitivity are my practice's underlying values.

Are you working endlessly to fix everything in your life — parenting your children, pushing yourself at work, managing relationships — yet still feeling drained and lonely inside? Do you quietly long for someone who truly understands your suffering, but when reaching out, you end up receiving advice that makes you feel judged and lonely? Do you wonder what it would feel like to live a life that’s genuinely self-directed — free from pressure, expectations, and constant striving? Many people assume counselling is slow or just small talk — but in reality, it can be the most effective “quick fix” to your stress and exhaustion.

You may be moving through a time when the ground feels uncertain, when old meanings or parts of your identity have fallen away, and the new ones are not yet clear. After loss, shame, or struggle, it’s natural to feel stuck, weighed down, or alone. At the same time, a quiet part of you may be longing for clarity, connection, and the gentle strength to begin again. Your story matters. Even if right now you feel it doesn’t. Even if life feels heavy and uncertain. I believe in every person’s potential to grow and to create new possibilities.

Do you lack confidence or struggle with feeling like you're not good enough, not worthy, or in some way unsafe in your world? Are your relationships struggling? Do you find yourself engaging in unwanted behaviour? So many wonderful people are struggling now more than ever, feeling anxious, overwhelmed, depressed, triggered, and are self-medicating with unhealthy coping strategies...feeling lost and alone with how to manage their relationships, their careers, and their lives. Bottling it all up and pushing it to the side can lead to long-term issues in your body and your mind. We believe clarity, calm, and peace should be easier.

The people I often work with are struggling with feeling like they don't belong anywhere - whether that be with friends, family or at school, or work. They feel like they aren't 'good enough,' to be in the spaces or roles that they are in. Some find their relationships complicated - with friends, family, or romantic partners - where others don’t understand their values and what they want. You deserve to be heard, you deserve to live life on your terms with your values, and you deserve space to belong.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
