I tend to work from a trauma lens, accepting that trauma is not always the things that society at large perceives as trauma, but can also be many "small" things that add up to create negative beliefs about ourselves.
I am accepting new clients and understand that choosing a counsellor can be very difficult. It can be very unnerving to share your lived experiences with a new person. I am an avid believer in connecting with others as a way to get on a path to wellness- which is my aim. I have experienced loss, grief, trauma and anxiety myself, and navigated those things with the help of a counsellor and encourage you to do the same. I would love to meet with you to discuss your path to wellness, and encourage you to ask me questions to ensure our therapeutic relationship is comfortable for you.

People find the best outcomes in counselling when there is a strong therapeutic alliance. A therapeutic alliance is a fancy way to say that you like your counsellor. Specifically, you trust your counsellor and feel they understand what you are going through. For me, a key ingredient in a strong therapeutic alliance is being genuine, open, and putting the client first. For this reason I offer free video consultations. I have extensive experience working with clients struggling with infertility & reproductive health, anxiety, complex trauma, depression, and adult ADHD .

Since 2012, I have been working in the Mental Health field in various roles, such as a Family Support Worker, a Community Inclusion Worker and as a Rehabilitation worker in Psychiatry. I also volunteered my time facilitating Sexual Abuse Prevention workshops. Because of my experiences, I have a very decent grasp on how to support people, however that may look, with an innate ability of understanding, no matter which walk of life you come from, and I don't believe in labels.

The concentration of my practice is working with families who are experiencing conflict, difficult emotions, and/or concerning behaviours. How should we react or respond? What can we do to help and support? How do we make sense of these big emotions and behaviours? I work with individuals and families through a systemic approach that strives to develop understanding and provide concrete tools and strategies for making change. I am flexible in my ability to offer individual, couple, and family sessions.

People often come to therapy with hopes of feeling happier and more fulfilled, yet the process of change can be frightening and uncomfortable. I want my clients to feel they are in the driver's seat, with access to the brake and gas. I am the passenger with the road map. I will guide their healing journey but they choose the direction and pace. I truly believe the only thing more frightening than 'change' is the status quo. Why settle? You deserve more!

ADHD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
