You may look like you're managing on the outside while feeling overwhelmed on the inside. Many of the people I work with are navigating chronic illness or pain, ADHD or autism, anxiety, grief, caregiving, burnout, or major life changes. Living with physical or emotional challenges can affect every part of life. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where we can make sense of what you're experiencing, identify what's keeping you stuck, and work toward meaningful, lasting change together.

Ever feel stuck in a loop of frustrating patterns? Long for meaningful connection, but get lost in estrangement or conflict? Wonder why that joyful ease you occasionally glimpse feels buried under a sludge of anxiety, numbness, or anger? No matter how many "new leaves" we turn over — we find ourselves sinking back into the familiar muck. Here we go again! It's not just in your head. Pain and anxiety get encoded and frozen in the physical body, along with all the feelings it's not okay to feel. By adulthood, our nervous systems are hardwired to survive the situation we grew up in – and can get stuck there, replaying the same script.

You may be struggling with depression, anxiety, loss, or a difficult transition that has shaken your sense of who you are and where your life is going. Drawing on almost 20 years of experience in both depth and existential approaches to therapy, I offer a warm, thoughtful space to explore what has happened, what matters to you, and how you might move toward a life that feels more authentic, connected and worth living.

I love to work with clients who want a partner in their healing. They know that the understanding and answers they are seeking are within themselves. Often my clients express a kind of anxiety - generalized to many aspects of their lives or about a specific aspect, but just as often they come to me with a more vague sense of wanting to enjoy life more or move past a feeling of dissatisfaction or apprehension that seems to "follow them" in their lives. Together, we delve into deeply exploring what that is, using body, mind and spirit as tools. My clients are motivated to experiment, explore, and reflect to find what matters most.

At heart I am a down-to-earth optimist, I believe we are born with a desire to be the best version of ourselves. Rather than seeing transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues as merely suffering to be overcome, I see them also as opportunities to deepen in our understanding of self and in our ability to handle the world successfully. Each of us is on a heroic journey, and each life needs two things to grow and develop, ‘love” and “difficulties”. It is the difficulties that cause us to look inside ourselves, and to understand self in a deeper way, and to develop an outlook and the skills to be in the world.

Some things don't fade with time. They surface at night, in your temper, in the distance you feel from people you love. If you're carrying something heavy — from war, from childhood, from a relationship that broke something — you don't have to explain all of it before we begin. I'm a Canadian Certified Counsellor working with trauma, PTSD, and couples, virtually across British Columbia. I offer sessions in Arabic and English.

FAQ - About Therapy for Elders
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.
How is counselling for elderly different from counselling for other age groups?
In general, counselling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialise in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counselling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.
How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.
What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counsellors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counsellors specialising in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counsellors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
