What would it take to live the life you imagined? Have you truly found your authentic self? Visit me at Aster Wellness Centre and we will explore these questions to consider your current path. We often have our sights set high but lose track of what is truly important due to unexpected obstacles such as immense anxiety, anger, depression, fear, grief, and personal traumas. We don't ask for these things, but they are occasionally placed along our path, and can easily trip us up. The feeling that we are stuck or unable to realize our potential sets in.

Not all Binges are a Choice. The exact cause of BED is unknown, but chemicals in the brain, family history and certain life experiences may play a role in Binge Eating Disorder. BED often begins in the late teens or early 20s. BED affects slightly more women than men. About 40% of those with BED are male. I believe we “know” when our eating behavior is off and that dieting will not resolve the underlying anxiety. There is help, I’ve been there.

I work with children and youth using Synergetic Play Therapy. Through this framework, I support my clients to integrate their body sensations, emotions, and thoughts through play. Play in the language of children. When a child engages in play, they are able to explore the experience of the world in a safe and comfortable manner. I meet children where they are at and connect in a way that feels authentic and meaningful for them. I support children to develop emotional regulation, learn skills to better manage the challenges they face, and build on their strengths and resources.

I like to use puzzles as an analogy or a metaphor to describe our lived experiences. Sometimes it is just difficult to put a puzzle by yourself. There are things you are worried about, you are fearful to think of, or something you have not discovered yet. I am here to help you place the pieces together to understand yourself better. Although it may take some time, or it may not be perfect, you are not alone. You want to find a way to redefine yourself, but you do not know where to begin with or feel drained to try.

I frequently work, though not exclusively, with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, life transition and career direction. Seeking help can be stressful. I offer a safe space for clients to work on their issues and support them in ways that are just right for them. We co-construct the clients' desired future. Making changes can be stressful for the clients. I seek to support the clients in working out their next small step forward. When I work with clients challenged with anxiety or depression, I will help them to understand the mechanics of anxiety or depression and to acquire skills to cope with anxiety or depression.

How can I find a therapist in Port Coquitlam?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; zip code or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code-postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States and Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The PT Directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by PT are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
