Hi, I'm Spencer. I work with clients 18+ who are exploring life's big questions and trying to manage being a "functional human" in 2025. Each of us has challenges we're navigating, and sometimes we need support. Whether you're dealing with the effects of trauma, stress, depression, grief, or relationship conflicts, I truly believe that talk therapy can provide the support you need.

I support spouses, parents, or adult children whose loved one struggles with addiction. They often feel anxious, drained, and invisible - caught between wanting to help and needing to protect their own well-being. They want clarity, tools to set boundaries, and space to process their own emotions. Their goal is to feel calmer, stronger, and more in control, while still caring deeply for their loved one.

Are you looking to get back in control of yourself and your life? Often, we can feel like we are victims at the hands of our emotions, like someone else is running our lives and we are just watching it happen. When we are in this space, we can find ourselves distant from our loved ones, our values, and even ourselves. I work to empower you back to a place where you are able to decide what you want your life to look like, so that when difficult thoughts and emotions arise, you can face them, decide what you want to do with them, and act in a way that you can be proud of.

Pain requires attention that heals it, not the kind that perpetuates it. For some this may be the first time seeking understanding, direction, helpful tools. Others may have sought a lifetime for relief from struggle, despair, confusion; challenges that feel overwhelming. Regardless, if you are hoping to live with more wholeness and ease, you are in the right place. This is exactly the time to make the connection with support that you deeply long to.

Life can brings unexpected changes: Relationships come to an end; There may be Infidelity, failure, and disappointments. For those who value spirituality and faith there is a loss of hope. Alcohol and/or drug issues take control. If any of this resonates with you it may be a good time to consider counselling. I have a passion for people who struggle with chronic anxiety, aging gracefully, faith issues, addictions, depression, and relationship strife. I also have good understanding of the complicated world of blended families, those who struggle with work/family balance, and men who struggle with gaming/porn addictions.

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
