You're somewhere between 20 and 65+, and you're bone-tired. The kind of exhaustion that comes from years of being on edge, bracing for the next difficult thing, or moving through life feeling disconnected inside. Maybe you grew up in one world and are building your life in another. Maybe something happened that you are still carrying. I work with adults navigating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, panic, shame, and relationship struggles, including immigrants and cross-cultural clients. Using a trauma-informed and narrative-informed approach, you explore the stories you carry, reconnect with your strengths, create new possibilities for healing

I imagine my client with their therapist as pioneers in their journey. Whether it is grief, transition, relationships or trauma. As pioneers, we explore, travel, and come to discovery. This discovery may help an individual to work on goals, their growth, treatment and healing. This self discovery is simply facilitated by the therapist and lead by the client.

We work with individuals who may appear high-functioning on the outside, yet feels disconnected, overwhelmed, or internally conflicted on the inside. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, burnout, relational patterns, emotional reactivity or numbness, identity confusion, or the long-term effects of developmental or relational trauma. Often, they’ve already tried to “think their way out” of their struggles. They understand themselves intellectually, but still feel stuck in their body, nervous system, or relationships. They may feel exhausted from holding it together, people-pleasing, or over-functioning.

Most of my clients come to me after years of being bounced around — poked, prodded, dismissed, told their symptoms are stress or in their head. They live with chronic pain, chronic illness, ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, Long COVID, POTS, or medical trauma, and they're done pushing through flares and pretending to be fine. What they want is someone who actually gets it. I do — I live in a chronic-illness body myself. We work on nervous system regulation, pacing, and everything you're carrying alongside the illness, using Pain Reprocessing Therapy, SSP, CBT, DBT, and somatic work. Online across BC, AB, MB, SK, NL, YT, NT, and NU.

Life. Life often nudges us out of sync. Is your story a soliloquy, a curious relationship, or a quandary of what is ahead? Are you fighting anxiety, doubting familiar patterns, or an undefinable unsettled feeling? I commend your search seeking deeper peace and purpose; I offer a calm, thoughtful space to explore the peculiar and unfold your stories. Sometimes that means sitting with a question a little longer than usual; together, we might note patterns, deepen understanding, and open up new viewpoints. I offer sessions in a peaceful country setting just minutes from town, online, or as walk-and-talk conversations in nature.

How does music therapy work?
A music therapist will begin by assessing the client’s specific needs and getting a sense of their musical ability and interests. Musical training is not required, and clients of all ages can benefit from this type of therapy. The therapist will then make a plan for how to achieve the client’s therapeutic goal(s) using a range of receptive (e.g., listening to a song) and active (e.g., drumming in a group) music therapy techniques.

What are some common music therapy techniques?
Music therapy usually involves listening to music (either live or recorded). Music therapy clients may also make music on popular instruments, such as the piano, guitar, and hand drum, or sing. Sometimes music therapy can include guided imagery. A music therapist may ask clients to improvise on the spot or even compose their own songs. Dancing or moving to music can be an effective intervention to help clients feel more fully grounded in their bodies and remain in the present moment.

How does music therapy help with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?
Music therapy can be a valuable creative outlet for clients with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who have trouble putting their painful feelings into words. Listening to music can be relaxing while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. In addition to its mood-boosting effects, music therapy can help clients build resilience and overcome PTSD symptoms that may interfere with their daily lives.

How long does music therapy take?
Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes. They can be scheduled in advance (for example, once a week) or can be done on an as-needed basis. Some clients will only require a handful of music therapy sessions to achieve their goals, while others may need months or longer, depending on their specific concern.
