One of the most exciting aspects of life is that it is always changing, yet this can also be one of our biggest challenges. Life's transitional moments can be difficult as they can cause stress, uncertainty and confusion and can often lead to feelings of grief and loss. It can make us question ourselves and others and may overwhelm us into inaction. The picture of what we had expected our future to look like changes and we are left with a variety of emotions and no plan forward. I believe that having someone to talk to through these tough times is so helpful. I am grateful to be that person for my clients.

I help women untangle overwhelm, anxiety, and impossible standards that leave them drained and caught in cycles of guilt and always feeling behind.
Too many open tabs, a never-ending to do list, last minute rushing to hit deadlines and busy brain.. Sound familiar? Yes, you’ve managed to hold it all together, juggling all-the-things, pushing through and making it work. But lately, it feels extra hard. Maybe life’s shifted with more work demands, family needs, financial stress, or perimenopause. If you’re a woman with ADHD, the mental load can feel even heavier. Asking for support might not be your go-to... But, you’re starting to wonder if it has to be this tough.

My area of specialty and interest is working with adults in dealing with stress, anxiety, life transitions, depression, trauma, chronic pain, and grief.
I strive to provide practical coping, relaxation, and mindfulness strategies. My interest in mindfulness led me to complete a six-month meditation retreat, in silence, in a forest meditation centre in Southeast Asia. The experience inspired me to present a TEDx talk, entitled "How mindfulness Meditation Redefines Pain, Happiness & Satisfaction".

People turn to me when they're wrestling with deep, painful conflict, even if that conflict is within themselves. I tend to focus on interrelationships. This includes couples (together, apart or considering separation), step-families, and parents & adult children. Clients often have some commonalities when they reach out, including feeling trapped in Groundhog Day-level fights with loved ones. Or they're sweeping their needs under the rug to tend to everyone else. Or they're contemplating divorce or estrangement because the tension feels unbearable. Or they're tired of acting in ways that don't align with who they really are.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
