I practice Transpersonal Counselling Psychology- Family Systems , Person Centered therapy, IFS and CBT.
If we all could have the option to be supported and heard with our struggles, to be connected and cared for, perhaps our ability to move through them and towards our goals would be different. What is it you wish to shift, where would your life be right now? How can I help you get there? If you are a victim of crime you may be eligible for counselling through CVAP. I am an approved CVAP counsellor.

I specialize in supporting clients who are neurodivergent and/or living with chronic pain. Hi, my name is Makita and I’m happy to see you chose to come to my page. I work with young adults, adults, seniors, and couples, who are interested in learning to cope with life’s challenges. This includes anxiety, stress, depression, relationship issues, anger, feeling overwhelmed or burnt out. My clients are looking for and need a supportive therapist who can sit with them during their lowest points, be bold and honest with them during their denials and can offer practical tools they can utilize outside of the therapy room. Their goal is to feel better because they want better for themselves and their situations.

It was through her own personal journey that Trish came to find her expertise as a Somatic Psychotherapist; helping individuals, couples and families step into balance, health and connection so that they can live in joy, vibrancy and passion! After full recovery from a skiing accident that had her in a wheel chair for months, she began to feel uptight all the time, depressed, had unhealthy eating patterns, an autoimmune diagnosis, and disconnect in her marriage. She had forgotten all about joy, vibrance & passion or how to even reach for those things. If you have ever experienced these feelings & lack connection, Trish can help.

We are all deserving and capable of enjoying fulfilling romantic and sexual relationships. Connection is the key to a life lived full. Connection to yourself first and foremost— awareness of your emotions, body sensations, values, and needs. Believing fully in your inherent worth, flaws and all. Connecting to others through a practice of empathy, vulnerability, and reliability is how we create strong relationships to our loved ones and the world around us.

I specialize in working with adult men, particularly men who struggle with anxiety, trauma, anger, depression, self-esteem, and expressing their emotions/needs/desires. A particular specialty is with men who identify as a HSP or introvert. I have worked with many young to middle aged adults, including couples, who want a new direction in life and/or who are struggling to adapt to a new stage or transition. If you are looking for support in becoming more aware, empowered, and self-compassionate while you embark on a new path that is more aligned with how you want to live your life, I can guide you along the way.

Children need to be mirrored. When they come to you, you want to be that clear mirror. So the most important work you do is with yourself. – Dr. Gabor Mate. The overwhelming challenges that you face as a parent are not meant to be felt alone. You deserve to be seen, understood, and supported in a way that recognizes the unique struggles of your family. There is courage in recognizing feeling exhausted, irritated, and disconnected from your family, that the way that you’re parenting isn’t reflective of who you envisioned yourself to be.

Not all Binges are a Choice. The exact cause of BED is unknown, but chemicals in the brain, family history and certain life experiences may play a role in Binge Eating Disorder. BED often begins in the late teens or early 20s. BED affects slightly more women than men. About 40% of those with BED are male. I believe we “know” when our eating behavior is off and that dieting will not resolve the underlying anxiety. There is help, I’ve been there.

I work with clients who come from a variety of backgrounds, and specialize in trauma recovery and neurodiversity. I’m passionate about helping people identify their own strengths and resources in overcoming the challenges that life throws at us. It’s important for me to provide my clients with a safe space to explore their feelings and thoughts. In this way, I work with my clients collaboratively to help them gain new tools that they can take with them outside of the counselling room.

My approach is informed by Narrative Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems , Mindfulness and Person-Centred Approaches.
It can feel like a heavy and exhausting life, managing the constant churning in your mind in parallel with keeping up with everything that you have on your plate. You may have heard that counselling can help but it's hard to imagine how. You may be thinking the problems are obvious I just need to logically map my way out of this. Many years back with a scientist's perspective, it was hard for me to imagine how counselling could possibly help me out of it. Many years of training and practice later, I have humbly witnessed numerous clients overcoming problems and experiencing new possibilities, identities and futures.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
While most types of therapy have a lot in common, they also fall into clusters that share core features, such as cognitive therapies or psychodynamic approaches. It is important to seek someone who practices evidence-based therapy, meaning one or more forms of treatment that have been scientifically evaluated and tested, and demonstrate consistent improvement for a majority of patients.

If you are unsure about choosing the right therapist, psychologist, or counsellor, it might be useful to first learn more about therapy types and modalities.

How to find a therapist or counsellor in New Westminster?
When looking to find a therapist, start by considering training and credentials. Studies also indicate that the therapeutic alliance, or the relationship the client develops with the therapist, is an important factor in their ability to work together to achieve the client’s goals.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in New Westminster specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
