Perhaps you are a family member of someone struggling with mental health.
At times when we seek counselling, we aren’t totally sure what the ‘problem’ is, we just know our current realities don’t feel fully fulfilling. Other times, we can identify what the ‘issue’ may be, but feel stuck around how to move forward. Counselling therapy is effective in both scenarios, and works to bring both insight and solutions into an individual’s life. Many people looking for a counsellor are seeking a change in their lives, at times wondering if a different reality is possible. Let’s use our time together to bridge the gap between your current reality and a more fulfilling future.

For this reason, I combine mindfulness and relaxing yoga practice with narrative therapy, internal family systems therapy, and EMDR to support healing.
We sometimes find ourselves lacking in the opportunity to experience joy, creativity, meaning, and connection in our lives. At Ohana, we support the exploration of what it is that may be preventing you from being the person you want to be and healing in a way that allows you to have these experiences.

When I worked as Outreach Family Counsellor at a non-profit, I learned that some people feel more comfortable connecting while going for a walk together or sitting on their own couch.
Not accepting new clients at the moment. My main specialty is relationship counselling. I can help you reduce anxiety or depression associated with the relationships or early attachment trauma that is negatively impacting you. I can also help you manage conflict, difficult emotions and address anger, controlling/avoidant behaviours. The process is relatively straightforward: together, we figure out what relational patterns and underlying feelings cause problems. Then, together we work on changing the patterns and addressing the feelings. I rely on the Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy framework(based on attachment theory).

Her true passion is to support you, your partner & your family to create new neuro pathways that will free you, bringing more connection, joy, well being & fun.
It was through her own personal journey that Trish came to find her expertise as a Somatic Psychotherapist; helping individuals, couples and families step into balance, health and connection so that they can live in joy, vibrancy and passion! After full recovery from a skiing accident that had her in a wheel chair for months, she began to feel uptight all the time, depressed, had unhealthy eating patterns, an autoimmune diagnosis, and disconnect in her marriage. She had forgotten all about joy, vibrance & passion or how to even reach for those things. If you have ever experienced these feelings & lack connection, Trish can help.

I am a culturally competent counsellor and my interest is personal and family relationships, race-based trauma, anger and anxiety.
Are you looking for someone to lean on and share without judgment? My approach to therapy is listening with an open heart. There was a time I did not speak up and if I did, I thought people would be critical of me. I was extremely self-conscious, it took a crisis in my life to reach out for help. I am here today to tell you that this experience shifted my life tremendously. The crisis was an end of a relationship and a suicide in my family . I ended up going back to school after over 20’s years in the same job and I am a counsellor today. Choosing the right counsellor is important and this relationship should feel connective.

If you are finding yourself, family or child in need of some extra support then please do not hesitate to reach out for a free consult to see if I am a good fit for your needs - take care!.
Hello, I am Autumn! I work largely with play, expressive and nature based therapy. I work with children, teens, and adults. Play is how children communicate so there is no better way to work with the concerns that are close at heart then through play for little ones. Don't think that play is only for kids though - expressive therapy like painting, clay, movement, and other creative ways of being can help even those of us that doubt we are "artistic" reach a deeper level of self-connection and authenticity. Nature is a wonderful way to feel connection to something bigger than us while increasing our grounding and mindfulness skills.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
