I am passionate about helping individuals and couples who have experienced significant trauma in their lives, including those with complex PTSD, dissociative identity disorder, and borderline personality disorder. I believe that when we experience trauma, we can feel trapped in the past, frozen by the challenge of letting go of the pain, and unable to enjoy the present. So I want to help you process those past hurts so that you can get back to living the life you want. I provide therapy to people of all cultures, faiths, genders, and sexual orientations, valuing each person’s unique experiences.

Hi there, I’m Shanzey, a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC. I offer support to individuals who may be feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck—whether that shows up as anxiety or low mood, relationship or family challenges, questions around identity, sense of belonging, or cultural expectations. Thank you for taking a moment to look at my profile. I am a clinical counsellor who primarily provides care to populations that have more difficulty accessing health services. I am referring to people living in small towns and rural areas, the population that has an aversion to the healthcare system due to having previously faced barriers and prejudices, and also to populations who often find it difficult to access the system itself, such as immigrant and refugee communities. Beyond the principles that guide clinical practice, in the therapeutic space that I strive to provide, perhaps my greatest concerns are hope and human dignity.

Being a human being is complicated, and often difficult, and we all need understanding and support from other people. I work as a counsellor because I want to provide that support and understanding, and I want to help people find and reclaim power in their lives, even in the face things they cannot change. I work as a team with my clients to build on their skills and strengths, figure out what coping strategies might not be working for them anymore, and find new ways of coping and being in the world. I work with all kinds of clients, and I am particularly interested in supporting neurodiverse, disabled, and chronically ill clients.

Hello and welcome! If you reading my personal statement you have taken that first step to reach out for help or support. For some of you this first step might have been easy, for many others starting the search took some time. And choosing a counsellor by having a brief conversation is next. I start the counseling process exactly where you are. Using a style that is collaborative and gentle, but can switch to using humour and challenge if that works better for you.

When the world demands we fit into their boxes, it gets hard to know ourselves. We get cut off from the parts we’ve had to hide, or contend with who we've had to become, in order to survive. As a transgender AuDHD system, we feel this deeply. So, I offer what’s helped us: a radically accepting, empowering and understanding space where you can freely explore who you are, or want to be, with no judgements or coercion. We deeply believe everyone, inside and out, is deserving of rights, respect and care. Yes, even the parts you wish weren’t there. You’re not too broken/weird/crazy/dangerous, and you're welcome here, exactly as you are.

Are you looking for someone to lean on and share without judgment? My approach to therapy is listening with an open heart. There was a time I did not speak up and if I did, I thought people would be critical of me. I was extremely self-conscious, it took a crisis in my life to reach out for help. I am here today to tell you that this experience shifted my life tremendously. The crisis was an end of a relationship and a suicide in my family. I ended up going back to school after over 20’s years in the same job and I am a counsellor today. Choosing the right counsellor is important and this relationship should feel connective.
