You are a busy person. Holding it all together for everyone around you. You may have a demanding job, kids at various stages of growth, a spouse, a car, a home, and maybe even fit in time to stay active, and get together with friends or maybe you lost your job, are retired, or your kids have left home. Midlife can be a time when you feel that something is missing, there is something more, or you just start to question what it is all for. What is the meaning of all of this? I know. I have been there. I can help give you evidence-based solutions to real world problems and empower you to move towards the life that you want.

Do you have the sense that there is underlying pain that is preventing you from fully enjoying your life? Often, our unhelpful patterns originally evolved as strategies to meet needs, and to protect ourselves against overwhelming distress. My work aims to help you more effectively meet the needs behind these old, perhaps outdated strategies. Some of the issues that clients come to me for help with are: personal growth and alignment with life purpose; emotional regulation; emotional intimacy; anxiety and panic attacks; self-worth; and grief and loss (personal and collective).

‘Hearts are not the burdens they carry; but the burdens they carry can drive their extremes' (Richard Schwartz, 2018). There are times when we feel truly burdened: exhausted, confused, immobilized, distressed, anxious, in relationship discord or overwhelmed. As challenging as these experiences can be, we can grow our strength and courage in our willingness to approach them. I work with clients to assist in living with more calm, courage, compassion, meaning, and deep connection.

As a registered therapeutic counsellor, I use Somatic therapy to support clients in their process of connecting with themselves and processing trauma stored within the body. Somatic therapy is a body-centered therapy. It is a trauma-informed approach that works to regulate the nervous system, promotes embodiment, and provides individuals with the opportunity to connect with themselves in a new way. I use a combination of somatic therapy, person-centred counseling and empathetic listening to provide clients with a safe environment to begin their wellness journey.

Perhaps something wounding in your history has fractured your wholeness and you feel overwhelmed and less connected to your core. There may be a part of you that feels conflicted, and challenges in life may feel like too much. Maybe the ever-evolving, and unique-expression of life that you are, is not feeling supported in its development. Having self-governance and allowing the unique-expression of life emerge through us is a birthright of humanity. You can be connected with your core, essence and inner guidance system that leads the way to your healing.

As an Indigenous/mixed person, my life’s paths and experiences encouraged the sharing of my gifts so that I may be in service to others. I’m deeply connected to and inspired by ritual, ceremony, community, and the personal journey of walking the complex edges of life. With a trauma informed lens, I weaving relational somatic psychotherapy and grief work to be a gentle guide and advocate, to hold space and offer support for life's current and unexpected challenges.

If you are feeling lost, disconnected or overwhelmed by emotion, you will find a safe space to explore your challenges in life with a supportive, empathic listener. Modern living is inherently stressful, and many resort to using unhealthy coping strategies that can get you stuck; by getting curious about the stuck-ness together, we can work together to untangle the knots and shift back into your natural state of wholeness. I believe the whole essence of healing is about finding a way to turn towards yourself when you're hurting, instead of the natural tendency to avoid/distract/numb/repress, and I can help you make this shift within

If you’ve landed here, you must be in a time of transition. Trust me, I know how hard it is to make the first step. And yet, here you are! Searching profiles of therapists you wonder and worry if you will jive with. Well, If you're in a time of transition and healing and looking to work with a therapist in an unconventional way - I encourage you to try art therapy with me. It's psychotherapy with ART at the heART of it. Art therapy is NOT an art class, nor do I tell you what your art means. We actually use the creative process as a way to explore emotions, narratives, memories, and subconscious in a gentle, non-confrontational way.

Life can be unsettling, overwhelming, even traumatic at times. Self-esteem can waiver, relationships can be difficult, we can become anxious, depressed, experience guilt, loss and sadness. All are normal parts of the human experience, yet not always easy to navigate on our own. My belief is that through a dialogical relationship with a compassionate other, while listening to the information our body provides, healing is very possible. We go beyond coping techniques, to uncover the wounds that are under the current struggles. We will process traumas on a deep level, bringing more capacity and freedom to your nervous system.

Divine Alchemy (formerly Bliss Mental Health). I believe that all human beings have a remarkable ability to grow and change. Some clients come to me with a great deal of depression or hopelessness about their lives without the insight as to how they can be helped. I use a strengths-based approach as I listen to their stories to find the hope, possibilities, and resiliencies that coexist alongside suffering and insecurities. Evidenced-based and trauma informed; approached from a spiritual and cultural lens and can assist with residential school generational impact.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
