I work to support clients with grief and loss, addiction, depression, anxiety, body dysmorphia, building confidence, sport psychology, caregiver burnout/compassion-fatigue, sex therapy, and intimacy work.
I work with clients to develop more self-awareness of their concerns and how they can support their individual growth. This means that we work on a person-centered approach to build self-confidence both physically and emotionally as needed. I use modalities from CBT, DBT, solution-focused, ACT and body positivity to facilitate this mindset.

I work with adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves, often navigating ADHD, addiction recovery, anxiety, self-doubt, stress, or major life transitions.
I offer a trauma-informed, collaborative approach that gives you space to slow down and feel understood. Together we explore what’s driving your struggles, calm overwhelm, and gently shift patterns that no longer serve you, using practical tools to support steadiness, clarity, and self-trust.

Trying to cope with the pressures and stresses of life leaves us anxious, depressed, and disconnected from ourselves and others. Many of us fall into self-sabotaging behaviours or repeat unhealthy relationships. Many of us face the limitations of psychiatric treatment and are forced to carry the weight and stigma of diagnosis. Many of us struggle simply to maintain our creativity and our sense of self against overwhelming pressures to conform or perform. We all need the chance to check in and process our feelings and reactions, to work through the struggles of our personal history, and find new and creative ways to move forward.

Maybe your feeling lost, not sure who you are anymore. Starting over, empty nester, getting divorced, new parent, grieving, getting married - any kind of lifestyle transition. You compare yourself; you have been called a people-pleaser. You'd like to put yourself higher on your priority list, but that feels really uncomfortable. Do you struggle to communicate, ask for what you need, accept help from others? Find yourself asking who am I, what brings me joy, what do I want? Something impactful that changes our life as we know it & this can bring a wide range of emotions & can feel really overwhelming.

In the world of problems, maybe none are more worth solving than those that plague children and families. Over 20 years, I have dedicated my practice to solving these problems by counselling parents, children & families and assisting them through high-conflict challenges. In March 2013, the Family Law Act changed whereby it now is rightly focused on the best interests of the child and makes it possible for families to work with a parental coordinator who has judicial authority to make legally binding decisions. This alternate dispute resolution allows for a more effective process so that children of high-conflict families are not stale mated.

You're holding it together at work and showing up for your family. But somewhere along the way, you stopped feeling like yourself. Maybe it's the third coffee before noon, the shorter fuse with your kids, or the way weekends don't recharge you anymore. Many men I work with look successful on the outside while privately feel worn down, anxious, or disconnected. What they're looking for is relief from the constant weight, a clearer sense of direction, and grounded confidence to move forward. Together we slow things down and focus on what matters most. Our work is collaborative and practical, built to create real change in daily life.

I enjoy connecting with people by providing a safe space for them to share their thoughts and feelings. We will work together to overcome the challenges of the past, and take steps together to shape the future with what works best for you. Sometimes it can be a crisis that makes you seek out counselling, in working together, you will discover that the crisis may have been exactly what was needed to help you make some important changes to improve your life. Taking the first step in asking for help takes tremendous courage, the next step typically includes finding the right counsellor for you.

Grounded in the values of transparency, humility, empathy and empowerment, my practice acknowledges that mental health injuries and difficulties are normal responses to certain situations and circumstances. Counselling experience in a university wellness centre, and in health authorities in Northern BC and Nova Scotia, has given me a strong background in working with depression, anxiety, panic, people-pleasing, various types of trauma, borderline personality and concerns common to post-secondary students including life transitions, academic demands and pressure to succeed.

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
