I am in the business of helping people become themselves. In other words, I think that every person has a unique and beautiful core self that holds the blueprint for a deeply fulfilling and meaningful life. However, life can be painful and sometimes we need to move away from who we are in order to survive. It is my passion and joy to meet people in these places, work towards understanding our defenses, and together move towards whatever lies beneath. I’m honoured that you would consider inviting me to join you in this journey. I consider it a sacred privilege to discover what it means to live fully and freely.

In my practice, I prefer to integrate Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Adlerian and Psychodynamic approaches, along with Gestalt and Psychodrama principles to deepen awareness and foster self-understanding through experience and reflection.
Hi! My name is Mina Hanna, Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. My path into counselling grew out of personal experiences of growth, cultural transition, and a deep curiosity about the human mind and resilience.

You may feel deeply and value meaningful connections, yet find yourself repeating the same relationship patterns. You might overthink interactions, question your worth, or feel anxious in relationships even when you care deeply about others. Many people I work with are thoughtful, emotionally aware individuals who want to better understand themselves and the patterns shaping how they connect with others and themselves. They may have insight into their struggles but still feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from their sense of self.

When anxiety takes over, it’s often your body’s way of asking for help. Racing thoughts, poor sleep, low mood, or constant tension can be signs of deeper imbalance — in your nervous system, your hormones, or even your gut. I help you uncover the root causes of your anxiety so you can heal from the inside out.

I integrate perspectives from humanistic, existential, and psychodynamic theory which inform my understanding of where certain problems come from and what to do about it.
I believe that the experiences we have in our inner and outer world teach us something about the world, ourselves, and others; and they contribute to the forming of often unconscious patterns in the way we think, feel, and act. These experiences can even be stored in the body/nervous system, otherwise known as trauma. In other words, our experiences help create a “map” that show us how to navigate uncertainty, relationships with others, and relationships with our selves. I believe that people come to therapy when those 'maps' are no longer working and need updating. That's where I come in!

You may be carrying trauma, grief, or the feeling that the life you’re living no longer fits who you are. Maybe you’re moving through a major transition, motherhood, loss, relationship changes, or questioning beliefs that once grounded you. You might feel exhausted from holding everything together, unsure of who you’re becoming, or simply wanting a space where you don’t have to explain or defend yourself. At the core of it, you may be longing for relief, clarity, and a deeper connection to yourself, your values, and the life you want to live.

Many of my clients are first responders and high‑achieving professionals who operate in intense, high‑stakes environments, facing repeated exposure to trauma, long or unpredictable hours, and constant pressure to perform. They often arrive feeling emotionally exhausted, hypervigilant, or cut off from themselves and their loved ones, yet still expected to show up strong and steady. I specialize in helping them process accumulated stress and trauma, manage anxiety and burnout, and build practical, sustainable strategies to feel more grounded, balanced, and resilient both on and off the job.

If you are under intense pressure, operating within complex systems, or navigating the heavy aftermath of trauma, you don't need passive validation. You likely need straightforward, collaborative, and hard-to-shock support to make sense of what is happening.

Life can feel heavy when you are carrying the weight of past experiences into your current relationships. Many of the people I work with feel stuck in cycles of pain or disconnection, unsure how to move forward. Youth and young adults often come in carrying depression symptoms, anxiety, family conflict, or questions of identity. Families may be longing to rebuild trust and connection or need support moving through grief. What they all want is to feel seen, supported, and to move toward more balance, clarity, and hope.

When we experience traumas or life stressors it can be not only overwhelming but also very isolating as it often feels like no one can understand what you are going through. Without having a space to explore and unpack these stressors in a meaningful way, we often turn those thoughts and feelings inwards, internalize our issues, and experience guilt and shame. This can also lead to negative interactions with our loved ones and can adversely impact our relationship with them. My focus is to help individuals grow from their struggles, heal from their pain and move forward to where they want to be in life so that they can thrive.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
