Waitlist for new clients
I am carrying a waitlist for psycho-educational assessments (approx 2-4 mo) with most families being seen sooner. I am not accepting new therapy clients at this time. I am passionate about working with children, youth, young adults, and their families to help them understand and cope with a variety of concerns. I received my Ph.D. in School and Clinical-Child Psychology from the University of Toronto and completed my residency out here in beautiful British Columbia with Child and Youth Mental Health in 2007.

You’re trying hard to keep it all together, but you’re exhausted. Life seems out of your control and every small decision feels too big to handle. You are unsure of who you are or where you belong. It's a battle to get out of bed and face another day. The weight of it all is suffocating and you’re terrified that life can never be different or better.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and depressed, and struggling to complete simple tasks? You're not alone, and you're doing your best. The negative stories we tell ourselves and the automatic thoughts that race through our minds all add to the challenge of navigating this uncertain and tumultuous world. You might also be wondering if you have ADHD or have only recently received a late-in-life diagnosis. Having spent much of your life thinking something was wrong with you, only to discover that your brain is built differently, can be a hard pill to swallow. I know this experience firsthand, and it's a lot to take in. Let's chat.

Life experiences can leave us feeling stressed, anxious, inadequate and even hopeless. At times we feel lost, as we struggle to navigate the pain and discomfort we are feeling and may be unsure of how to take steps forward. Counselling can be a place where we make space for the painful experiences of the past, our hopes for the future, and embracing all of who we are and hope to be. No matter what difficulty you are facing, there is hope in restoring what feels lost or broken and support for you as you process, heal, grow and find meaning.

I specialize in helping children and their families. When kiddos experience trauma, their brains do their best to keep them safe, but this often results in challenging behaviours and circumstances. I take a systems-level approach, speaking with team members I am given consent to collaborate with, so that all of us can be on the same page about interventions and strategies. If a child sees all of the adults in their world working together to care for them, they thrive. Of note, I am qualified in British Columbia to assess children and adults for Autism, ADHD, and PTSD beginning in Fall 2025 .

When anxiety takes over, it’s often your body’s way of asking for help. Racing thoughts, poor sleep, low mood, or constant tension can be signs of deeper imbalance — in your nervous system, your hormones, or even your gut. I help you uncover the root causes of your anxiety so you can heal from the inside out.

Coming to counselling takes courage to look deep into ourselves. You are looking to make changes, and perhaps some of those changes are within yourself, and some are with your situation. Let's start with a conversation. It is likely that not many people know or understand why or how your coping mechanisms arose, and often these strategies get in our way. Before we realize it, we're back doing the same thing we've always done and swore we would stop doing a thousand times ago.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
