Art Therapy in Maple Ridge, BC
Many people who find their way to my practice have already tried therapy. They're insightful, capable, and functional, yet still feel shaped by old relational patterns, chronic self-doubt, or a sense that something unresolved keeps showing up despite their best efforts. The work I do invites people to slow down and look closely at how their inner world has been organized by relationships, long-standing adaptations, and nervous system patterns. This is not short-term therapy. Sessions are relational, reflective, and often require tolerating discomfort as familiar strategies soften and new ways of relating to yourself emerge.

But you know there is more to life than just getting by...

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Art Therapist, and BC Play Therapy Association member.
I work with adults who are navigating a lot—emotionally, in their relationships, and in their work. Many are capable and high-functioning, yet feel stretched or stuck and struggle to find space to slow down or be fully themselves. I provide primarily online, trauma-informed therapy, offering a steady, supportive space to explore challenges, notice patterns, and develop strategies for greater ease and connection. I also work in person with children using play-based approaches, supporting them with curiosity and respect and often integrating parent support to strengthen family connection.

I specialize in providing therapeutic support to adults, teens, and children (ages 3 and up), utilizing a range of approaches. In my practice, I embrace the concept of Wabi-Sabi, which celebrates the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and the incomplete. This philosophy informs my therapeutic approach by encouraging clients to find acceptance and peace in the natural flow of life, recognizing that growth often comes through embracing life’s imperfections and uncertainties. This mindset fosters resilience and allows clients to appreciate their journey, with all its flaws and triumphs, as a beautiful and meaningful experience.

I specialize in helping children and their families. When kiddos experience trauma, their brains do their best to keep them safe, but this often results in challenging behaviours and circumstances. I take a systems-level approach, speaking with team members I am given consent to collaborate with, so that all of us can be on the same page about interventions and strategies. If a child sees all of the adults in their world working together to care for them, they thrive. Of note, I am qualified in British Columbia to assess children and adults for Autism, ADHD, and PTSD beginning in Fall 2025 .

Art Therapy Counsellors
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
