I specialize in parenting, adolescent and young adult challenges, women's issues , third-culture kid re-entry counselling, trauma, anxiety, grief & loss, and depression.
It can be lonely struggling through mental health problems by yourself. You don't want to burden your family or your support system but you desperately need to connect with someone who understands and who doesn't judge you. I have a strength-based focus which means together we look for what you are doing well and apply similar and new skills to a current problem. You are wired for growth and health! It is in there, but sometimes we need a skilled therapist to help identify problem areas, help us gain awareness, and find what works for the client in any given situation.

Living in and relating to our bodies in a healthy, comfortable way can be especially difficult in this day and age, given the countless messages and pressures we experience. How we feel living in our body may effect a wide range of areas in our life, including mood, self-esteem, behaviours, and relationships with others. My approach to counselling focuses on helping my clients understand and improve the way they relate to their emotions, to their thoughts, to their body, to their self, and to others.

I look forward to helping clients who are lacking feeling much or any happiness and joy and feel instead numb, worried and unable to change this, clients with complicated childhoods that have left them not understanding how to change the impacts and how they now live as an adult. Also, clients who want to understand themselves more so they can choose differently, are ready for a change, to listen to their own needs and want to understand how to move forward to experience a different life. In many ways this process is like going back and relearning yourself, the whys and ways you became you and who are meant to be.

The clients I work with understand that there is a spiritual thread that weaves beneath the surface of their lives, and they are seeking guidance on how to re-connect to this important aspect of who they are. I commonly work with fertility struggles, grief processing, depression, overwhelm, addictions, anxiety, relationship conflict, eating disorders, low self esteem, trust issues, and clients who are simply unhappy with the current state of their life. Ultimately, my clients are searching for balance between the mind, body and spirit aspects of self, which when in alignment, can lead to a heart-centered, joyful, fulfilling life.

I entered the counselling field with a desire to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for people who are struggling. Since then, I have come to know the power of not only feeling heard but the power of connecting with others – often just being with another person can help us to heal. I strive to provide clients with a space to be themselves and feel known. I want my clients to know they can bring the most authentic versions of themselves to the counselling room.

Do you feel a bit wobbly, worried, stressed out, or stuck in repeating patterns that aren’t working for you anymore? Maybe you’re having a tough time navigating through anxiety, depression, or complicated personal relationships. Perhaps you’d like to get better at communicating with the ones in your life that matter the most. You could also be wondering why painful memories from long ago keep popping up and you wonder if there’s a way to make them stop. Facing all of this alone can feel overwhelming, but real healing and change can come when you connect with someone you trust and feel fully safe with.

Women's Issues Counsellors

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
