I enjoy helping parents manage difficult behavior thereby creating a more healthy and rewarding
family
environment.
After 50 years in counselling I remain more intrigued than ever by opportunities to support positive growth. At key junctures in life's journey we are confronted with painful experiences that can create the required urgency for needed change. By carefully focusing on a client's unique story I extend an invitation to collaboratively clarify goals and set new directions. I draw from a wide variety of therapeutic approaches but also the life experience gained by being a father of 5, experiencing a diverse and enriching career path, as well as overcoming my own share of adversity along the way.

With over 7 years of experience supporting individuals and families, I offer a holistic, trauma-informed approach, where I incorporate
family
theories, and attachment theories, along with DBT, ACT, EMDR, Neurofeedback, and mindfulness techniques.
Seeking help is not always easy. Not knowing what to say, worrying about being a burden, fear of being judged or rejected…the list is endless. It takes a lot of courage to ask for help because we will have to put ourselves in a vulnerable place, where we surrender control. I believe vulnerability is the key to any close relationship. And here you are, bravely taking the first step towards the journey of healing and reconnection. Congratulations! Now that you have chosen to reflect on the past and move forward, I hope to have the honour of providing a safe and welcoming space for you to let the healing begin.

Everyone experiences situations in their lives when things do not work out as planned or desired. You may be having a difficult time in moving forward without the time, tools and support to do so in a positive way. Our emotional health is equally, if not more, important than our physical and mental health. When we are faced with trauma, our emotional health takes a toll and affects our ability to manage and demonstrate the emotions that arise from what we have experienced. When individuals and
family
members address and work on issues, which have been buried for years, they are able to achieve a sense of peace, balance and comfort.

Life can be challenging and although we are often able to cope with the difficulties that come our way, there are times when we can become overwhelmed with our thoughts and emotions. An issue may arise that feels too difficult to manage on our own. I provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space for you to explore whatever issues have brought you to seek support. I will help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and self-acceptance. It is perfectly normal to reach out for help. We will work together to meet your goals and find solutions that work for you. As a trauma informed therapist, I offer EMDR therapy.

한국어 설명은 위 "한국어" 를 클릭하세요. From birth to death, we constantly move between the spectrum of stability and fragility. No one’s always firm, and no one’s always vulnerable. No one’s entirely powerless or one hundred percent stoic in the face of challenging circumstances. Counselling cannot immediately alter the external factors of your situation, but it can encourage a better response from you. I wish, through counselling, you will find opportunities for growth and change.

I offer online counselling with a flexible schedule, and in-person sessions during office hours Mon-Fri 9:00am-5:00pm.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
