Emotionally Focused Therapists in Langley, BC

I draw from experiential, attachment based theories like, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Emotion Focused Therapy ( EFT), Satir Transformational Therapy, Neufeld Theory, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I truly believe that each person is of immense value and worth. Each time I sit with a client, I feel honoured to be allowed into the sacred place of their inner world. The work of healing and growth is complex and difficult. However, when we are met in our struggles while being truly seen and witnessed, we begin to be able to tolerate more as we come to know our true Self better. I seek to approach people's stories with compassion, curiosity, and authenticity. I am passionate about the opportunity that individuals have for change and growth when they are provided with compassionate care in a non-judgmental and safe environment.

My primary approach is Emotionally Focussed Therapy ( EFT) meaning I work to create a safe environment for you to share the reality and totality of what's going on and together we see how I can best help you.
I imagine you are viewing my profile as there is alignment with my training and specialization with what you hope to work on in therapy. I'd love to connect with you to hear what's going on and see how I can best support and guide you. Depending on what you want to work on, I can be as practical and as process/exploration focussed as would be helpful. My hope is to help you get what you're looking for and needing out of therapy.

I am trained in EMDR, ACT, DBT, CBT, EFT, IFS, Gottman Couples therapy, and LENS Neurofeedback.
Seeking help is not always easy. Not knowing what to say, worrying about being a burden, fear of being judged or rejected…the list is endless. It takes a lot of courage to ask for help because we will have to put ourselves in a vulnerable place, where we surrender control. I believe vulnerability is the key to any close relationship. And here you are, bravely taking the first step towards the journey of healing and reconnection. Congratulations! Now that you have chosen to reflect on the past and move forward, I hope to have the honour of providing a safe and welcoming space for you to let the healing begin.

I use a strengths based integrative approach to therapy, with an emphasis on emotionally focused, mindfulness, person-centred modalities, and cognitive behavioural.
The process of self-learning and connecting to our stories to make sense of our experiences, can be challenging and uncomfortable. In this journey, we can experience many difficult realties. You may find yourself lost and overwhelmed, while carrying the immense heaviness of these struggles. Therapy can be a transformative tool to support you in this journey. It is a profound honour to support children and adults foster their healing and make space for their collective emotions so they may engage in life with a larger capacity. My intention is to provide a safe therapeutic place where your voice is supported.

You may have tried everything to improve your relationship, yet despite your best efforts, things seem to get worse. You may wonder, "Is it just me, or is this what can happen in relationships?" You feel the urge to give up, but deep down, you still love your partner. Is this normal? The answer is yes— this is completely normal. Relationships often face challenges due to the complexities of understanding the dance between masculine and feminine energies, navigating attachment cycles, confronting belief systems, addressing unmet needs, healing past hurts, and managing miscommunication. But, there is hope.

Additionally, I am level 3 trained in Emotional Freedom Techniques ( EFT) which is among the somatic practices that support the processing of trauma and the reduction of difficult emotions.
The road to a joy filled life at times can take us on detours. After all, isn't that what we all want? A life honoring ourselves and living it to the fullest? Often those detours send us along bumpy roads that have not been well cared for and can come without us having much say in it. Trauma and conflict can be the cause of those detours which, left unaddressed, can wreak havoc on the rest of our lives. Who wants to be asked to relive trauma? The good news is that you don't have to! I am trained in techniques that help the body and mind process these wounds without the pain of retelling the story.

My approach is trauma informed, and shaped by attachment theory, emotionally focused therapy, and existential themes involving meaning & purpose.
Oftentimes we feel ‘stuck’ as though no movement forward is possible, or that our story is too complex to navigate and find healing from. Through my own experience, and in journeying alongside others, I have come to believe that freedom and life, even in the midst of significant pain and loss is possible. My clinical approach is unique, as I seek to incorporate the spiritual journey of the client, as understood through a Christian worldview, into the therapeutic process. I work using a parallel process of deepening your understanding of Self, and of God as you begin to reflect on your story.

I aim to foster a supportive, healing environment to help you utilize your strengths to create meaningful changes in your life. I take a collaborative and anti-oppressive approach, so throughout the process, I will always emphasize choice, empowerment, and safety.

Emotionally Focused Counsellors
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
