As parents we sometimes feel at a loss as to how to help our child, particularly when they are experiencing difficulties in more than one area of their lives: at school, with friends, regulating emotions, academically, socially or behaviorally. My personal experience and my love for children has helped me to realize that many parents need support and I have a passion for helping children and parents navigate these challenges. It is my belief that it takes a village for total and consistent support to achieve optimum results. I can help with home and school, on what can be a. tough and confusing path.

Everyone experiences situations in their lives when things do not work out as planned or desired. You may be having a difficult time in moving forward without the time, tools and support to do so in a positive way. Our emotional health is equally, if not more, important than our physical and mental health. When we are faced with trauma, our emotional health takes a toll and affects our ability to manage and demonstrate the emotions that arise from what we have experienced. When individuals and family members address and work on issues, which have been buried for years, they are able to achieve a sense of peace, balance and comfort.

As a trained trauma therapist, my approach gets to the root of your long-standing problems. Experiences of stress and trauma leave lasting impacts on the brain, body and psyche, disrupting our mood, energy, and thinking patterns. These impacts can not be undone by “talk therapy” alone. In addition to being a talk therapist, I am trained in a variety of neurobiologically-based trauma processing therapies. These techniques can release the impacts of stress and trauma, freeing you to pursue the life you want. If you’ve been feeling stuck, discouraged and overwhelmed, consider whether stress and trauma have been holding you back.

I work with people experiencing troublesome situations and difficult problems. Such problems go by many names, and may be new or old, but all share the common trait of stubbornly obstructing our happiness. You might feel depressed, anxious, stuck or directionless, unable to steer toward a more hopeful future. You might struggle with the overwhelming complexity of your life, or feel paralyzed by the choices it presents. You might lament the harshness with which you treat yourself or those you love. Whatever they do, however they operate, these problems make life needlessly hard.

We are a specialized team of mental health professionals providing high-quality counselling and trauma therapy to individuals and couples. We know that talk therapy is beneficial, but we realized that many of our clients’ problems require a deeper and more integrative approach. Stressful and traumatic experiences leave lasting impacts on peoples’ minds and their bodies, which can make them feel stuck in the same patterns. By integrating neurobiologically-based therapies such as EMDR, OEI and Somatic Experiencing into talk therapy, our team specializes in helping people break free from discouragement and overwhelm.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Counsellors

How does cognitive processing therapy work?

A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioural therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?

CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?

A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
