I have over 10 years experience empowering clients with a variety of struggles--ranging from a nagging feeling that there could be “more” to mental disorders like PTSD,
bipolar
, psychosis or personality disorder—to not only find ongoing relief for their problematic symptoms, but also to use their unique strengths to build lives where they can truly thrive.
Living with mental health struggles can be brutal! It can slowly drain you of your zest for life, your sense of pride and ability to overcome. It can keep you tethered to a past you’d like to leave behind. It can make you feel isolated and alone, misunderstood even by those who love you the most. Worst of all, it can it can convince you that life can’t ever be better for you. I want to tell you that it can, and given some time, effort and the right help, it will.

I am a South Asian woman of colour, who has experience working through a culturally inclusive lens. Through my lived experience and growing up in a multicultural society, it has given me a unique ability to see cultures from a different viewpoint; both the importance of beliefs & values that come from our cultures, whilst also recognizing the internal conflicts they can cause us as individuals. I believe as mental health providers it is important to meet the diverse needs of individuals within the community.

한국어 설명은 위 "한국어" 를 클릭하세요. From birth to death, we constantly move between the spectrum of stability and fragility. No one’s always firm, and no one’s always vulnerable. No one’s entirely powerless or one hundred percent stoic in the face of challenging circumstances. Counselling cannot immediately alter the external factors of your situation, but it can encourage a better response from you. I wish, through counselling, you will find opportunities for growth and change.

In my clinical practice I specialize in working with young adults & adults around themes such as anxiety, stress, burnout, low self-confidence, life transitions, and substance use.

Therapy can be an exciting but challenging step for many of us. Sometimes we feel we are not truly heard or understood, so we give up on working through certain issues. Other times, our experiences may seem too painful or impossible to deal with, so we continue to ignore or push the issue away. We all need support during difficult times. My practice focuses on creating a therapeutic environment to help you through life's challenges. Working with someone during difficult times can be life changing. I hope that you will reach out if you are needing that support and continue on the journey of self-care and healing.

What is the most successful approach to treating bipolar disorder?
Living with bipolar disorder can be challenging, and a number of therapies have been found effective in providing support to patients as they gain the skills to understand and manage the disorder. Family-focused therapy is often helpful for children and teens (the majority of cases develop before age 19); it aims to minimize mood cycling by improving family communication and reducing conflict. It also helps young people navigate the developmental challenges the disorder can create. Cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) and variants such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) help patients manage the thoughts and feelings that influence bipolar mood swings as well as develop specific behavioral strategies to counteract them.
What happens in therapy for bipolar disorder?
Because the patterns of mood switching and its triggers differ for each person and can change over time, mood tracking or monitoring becomes a basic way patients learn about the nature of their condition. One of the most common features of therapy is finding a workable method of mood monitoring, in which patients track their daily activities and rate their moods, then use the findings to adjust routines accordingly. Patients learn ways of handling the many stresses that arise in life so that they do not trigger mood swings.
What kinds of problems does therapy help with?
Like many other mental health disorders, BPD is heavily influenced by stress; therapy provides skills for coping with stressors of all kinds. Therapy is extremely important for helping individuals identify the situations that may trigger mood switching, so that mood swings can be prevented. Therapy may especially target recognition of the early stages of mood change so that they can be managed. In addition, therapy helps patients deal with the significant amount of turbulence the disorder can create in relationships and in work life.
What is the goal of therapy for bipolar disorder?
Therapy helps patients set up their lives to maintain stability so that their mood isn’t constantly threatened by daily events. Perhaps the first task of therapy is to educate people about the nature of the disorder. At the same time, a primary goal of therapy is to enhance adherence to drug treatment. Extended periods of mood stability can prompt patients to discontinue medication, triggering relapse, while the early phases of manic episodes can feel so energizing that patients stop medication, ushering in full-blown mania and the altered self-perception that can lead to destructive behaviors. Another major goal of therapy is to understand one’s mood patterns so as to minimize both the frequency and intensity of mood cycling.
