In my practice, EMDR therapy has helped many clients of all ages move beyond stress, anxiety , grief, or depression towards greater confidence, self-esteem, authenticity, and passion.
Often my clients are wanting to explore a personal issue/problem/feeling that won't go away and is starting to affect almost every part of their life. Advice from friends or family isn't helping and nothing else they have tried has worked. They believe there must be a better way to be but somehow they are just stuck. I can help you tackle your issues, get unstuck, and find that better place. Both personally and professionally, I can attest to the power of awareness as a key factor in facilitating a desired change; We can’t find the truth listening to our own voice’s echo. We can find ourselves only in someone’s mirror”(Rumi, n.d)

Whether you struggle with anxiety , trauma, OCD or PTSD, please know that there is help for you.
Hello! Thank you taking time to view my page. It can be challenging to reach out for support so I truly commend you in taking this very courageous first step. One of the most important aspects in finding a counsellor is to find one who can make you feel welcome, and safe. It is my goal in therapy to create a warm and inviting atmosphere where you can feel comfortable in just being yourself, knowing that you are accepted, no matter what your circumstances may be. I am always humbled by the insight that my clients bring to our sessions. No one client is the same and my treatment strategy is reflective of this uniqueness.

Stephanie provides support for people experiencing stress and shame-related issues such as relational trauma, anxiety , perfectionism, religious trauma/deconstruction, self-acceptance/compassion, life transitions, compassion fatigue, stress management, and more. Since these experiences often make it difficult to cope and thrive in the day-to-day - and in connection with others - counselling can provide growth towards feeling worthy and connected. Stephanie's truest value is that all people are worthy of love and belonging and embarks to bring that sense of value to every session.

I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety and depression, using methods proven effective by research.
Are you stressed at work and can’t sleep at night? Feeling worried, stuck and overwhelmed? I understand that these experiences can lead to feelings of loss – loss of control, loss of freedom, and loss of passion for your life. You might have been trying different strategies on your own, trying to power through the problem, relying on will power alone. Truth is - it’s not that you need to “work harder”. What you need is someone with the right knowledge and skills to guide you through the process and point you in the right direction. You are in the right place and you have options.

I have been employed as a clinical counselor since 2006, providing counseling on various issues including addictions, depression, anxiety , ADHD, self-esteem, trauma, child & youth mental health, anger management, crime victim assistance, family issues, couple counseling, parenting, and so on.
My foundation of therapy is a biopsychosocial-spiritual model, viewing human beings as whole persons of four aspects: physical, psychological, social, and spiritual. Therefore, I am able to see the whole picture on how a brain injury, physical illness, physical trauma, or substance abuse affects human emotions, cognition, behavior, and spirituality, or vice versa. My approach utilizes Cognitive Rehabilitation therapy (CRT), Rogerian therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), and Narrative therapy in order to help my clients toward problem solving and having a new hope for a new life.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
