Some of my areas of specialization are: eating disorders, trauma/abuse/neglect, parent/
teen
conflict, family/couples conflict, depression/anxiety, grief/bereavement,
adolescent
issues (including crime prevention), and addiction.
Many issues can effect each and every one of us at any point in our lives. Parent/
teen
conflict, abuse, trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, family issues, and self-esteem are some of the concerns we may face. Dealing with these problems in the light of life's responsibilities can become that much more challenging. Problems have a way of making us forget about our strengths, survival skills, knowledge, and abilities. In my approach, I work collaboratively with individuals/couples/families to investigate the influence of the problem(s), decrease it's effects, and open up possibilities of lasting change.

I specialize in parenting,
adolescent
and young adult challenges, women's issues, third-culture kid re-entry counselling, trauma, anxiety, grief & loss, and depression.
It can be lonely struggling through mental health problems by yourself. You don't want to burden your family or your support system but you desperately need to connect with someone who understands and who doesn't judge you. I have a strength-based focus which means together we look for what you are doing well and apply similar and new skills to a current problem. You are wired for growth and health! It is in there, but sometimes we need a skilled therapist to help identify problem areas, help us gain awareness, and find what works for the client in any given situation.

Often my clients are wanting to explore a personal issue/problem/feeling that won't go away and is starting to affect almost every part of their life. Advice from friends or family isn't helping and nothing else they have tried has worked. They believe there must be a better way to be but somehow they are just stuck. I can help you tackle your issues, get unstuck, and find that better place. Both personally and professionally, I can attest to the power of awareness as a key factor in facilitating a desired change; We can’t find the truth listening to our own voice’s echo. We can find ourselves only in someone’s mirror”(Rumi, n.d)

Hello! Thank you taking time to view my page. It can be challenging to reach out for support so I truly commend you in taking this very courageous first step. One of the most important aspects in finding a counsellor is to find one who can make you feel welcome, and safe. It is my goal in therapy to create a warm and inviting atmosphere where you can feel comfortable in just being yourself, knowing that you are accepted, no matter what your circumstances may be. I am always humbled by the insight that my clients bring to our sessions. No one client is the same and my treatment strategy is reflective of this uniqueness.

What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
