I support adults and adolescents who are struggling with a range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, grief, substance use disorders, sleep disorders, compassion fatigue, moral injury, and others. My clients often arrive feeling at the end of their rope - lost, alone, angry, afraid, overwhelmed, thoroughly drained, hopeless, or sometimes just completely stuck. They want their lives to be better, but don’t know how to begin to identify steps to take or how to manage that change. They want help dealing with difficult emotions and they want their lives to make sense.

Contact me for a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if we are the right fit for one another! Specialties are difficulties in relation to trauma, anxiety, and relationship issues.
New clients welcome! I offer in person sessions in my Cranbrook, BC office. We can work together to collaborate on what would be meaningful for you to work through and process. I believe that love and our connection with others (and especially ourselves) is crucial for our well being. Love heals but our connectedness to ourselves and others can become frayed for various reasons. The therapy process is most effective when it's what we need it to be and with a therapist that we feel that we can trust and have ease with. I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, EMDR as well as neuroscience informed and mind/body approaches.

Back in office April 24, 2024. I help adults overcome anxiety, trauma or ADHD and create more fulfilling lives. Do you put others first, then feel resentful? Is setting and maintaining boundaries in relationships really hard or does it make you feel guilty? If you feel anxious, stuck, worry a lot, try to please others, or don’t feel good about yourself, then let’s talk. With compassionate support, understand how anxiety, ADHD or trauma impact your life then strengthen resilience and build self-esteem in a safe and confidential environment. You can learn skills to manage unhelpful thoughts, behaviours and soothe emotions.

I believe in the mind-body connection, and how distress impacts how we show up in our lives & relationships. I trust clients instinctively know what to do to feel better, and that I spark their insight by allowing someone to first feel heard and understood. Clients and I often explore how to take the charge out of distressing emotions and/or experiences that underlie their presenting concerns (e.g., anxiety, depression, work/life/relationship stressors etc).

I have completed EMDR basic training and can treat some forms of trauma - please get in touch to discuss if this will meet your needs.
I believe that all forms of therapy have elements in common, and they all should work to foster self-compassion and self-understanding. I hope that my gentle and compassionate style will help to support my clients to explore their emotions, thoughts and automatic reactions in order to identify opportunities for change.

When we experience trauma, our whole system can feel on edge, not just with the big things, but the days to day as well. You might notice a struggle with persistent low mood, shame, chronic anxieties, and have a discouraging outlook on the future. It's easy to feel exhausted by your circumstances and at a loss as to what to do next. Trauma impacts everything about you and can steal the quality and joy from your life. It might be a specific event or moments over a lifetime that have built up that contribute to how you're feeling and I'm here whilst we unravel the threads that make it all so confusing and help it make sense.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
