Life is challenging, then you throw in difficult relationships, traumatic events, or systemic constraints and it can really feel unbearable. I specialize in working with folks who struggle with guilt, shame, life transitions, anxiety, depression or other mental health concerns that have them feeling like life is not worth living. I also support teens and parents who are struggling with relationship dynamics or who have experienced traumatic events. I am currently undergoing training in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing. I also rely on IFS, Narrative therapy, attachment and psychodynamic approaches.

I have 17 years of experience working with life transitions, addictions, spirituality, psychodynamic patterns, career decisions, relationships, parenting, and identity issues.
Are you tired of the same patterns showing up in your life? Have you tried surface-oriented counselling approaches in the past and felt they didn’t go deep enough? I am passionate about helping people dig into their lives in a way that engages their deeper Self. To find peace and contentment we must confront our lives honestly and tenderly. Self-acceptance is not just something you do in the mirror, it is a deep value for who and what you are as a person and this often requires understanding how we miss it. Therapy is a way to explore our lives in the presence and support of another. I am here to witness your journey.

Interventions include psychodynamic , somatic and expressive arts.
Are you different? So am I. I specialize in working with people who break the mold. This includes neuro-diverse adults (ADHD, Autistic, C-PTSD), chronically ill, 2SLGBTQ, and racialized people. Focusing on resiliency and emotional intelligence, I use evidence-based practices and creative interventions to use the wounds of the past as seeds for growth. Adverse childhood experiences, trauma, and relationship fractures disrupt our feelings of safety and trust. In order to thrive, we need to heal.

I integrate perspectives from humanistic, existential, and psychodynamic theory which inform my understanding of where certain problems come from and what to do about it.
I believe that the experiences we have in our inner and outer world teach us something about the world, ourselves, and others; and they contribute to the forming of often unconscious patterns in the way we think, feel, and act. These experiences can even be stored in the body/nervous system, otherwise known as trauma. In other words, our experiences help create a “map” that show us how to navigate uncertainty, relationships with others, and relationships with our selves. I believe that people come to therapy when those 'maps' are no longer working and need updating. That's where I come in!

I practice individual and group psychodynamic /psychoanalytic therapy, integrating mindfulness and somatic therapy. You may be suffering from anxiety, depression, intense emotions, high levels of shame, are struggling in your relationships, or have other symptoms that have left you feeling disconnected from yourself and others. Many of those I work with also have histories of growing up in invalidating or otherwise harmful environments in which they were not heard. In therapy, it is often the relationship that heals. I'm here to listen and help you move towards feeling more grounded, creative, and engaged in life.

Welcome! I'm grateful that your search has led you here. Many of us experience overwhelming emotions that we can’t make sense of, struggle with unhealthy outlets for emotional safety, have insecurities in our relationships when our needs don’t get met, and find it safer at times to hide our real selves from others. Together, we'll collaborate to expand your self-awareness, take intentional action towards your goals, and gently look inward to deeply nurture the parts of you that need healing. My approach is integrative and holistic, attending to your psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.

Resolution! Not just management !!! In a safe and confidential environment, I use various techniques to reduce / eliminate the emotional charge on painful topics so you can begin to work on deeper issues that, when resolved (not 'managed') will change your life! You will begin to feel better and function better, without anger, anxiety, depression, fear and the negative effects of stress and trauma! I use psychological techniques, body processes and energy work to clear the issues that limit you. How does it get even better than that?

Within family units, the need for each member to feel heard cannot be overstated. My approach to couples counselling places emphasis on effective communication while resolving damage done to the relationship by unfair fighting, infidelity or other relationship-based challenges preventing the couple from realizing the benefits of healthy coupling.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
