While I use a psychodynamic approach as my foundation for counselling (the "why" approach), I integrate other forms of therapy best suited to my client's needs.
“Grow through what you go through”. I like to call myself a “WHY” therapist. I believe that clients grow through their experiences starting from their “roots” (or their childhood). I believe that growing through experiences that may have stemmed from traumatic events in life or maladaptive ways of being, are the pinnacle of a therapeutic experience. I am here to guide you on your journey to self-actualization and improved mental health.

Being a human is often a lot more than we "signed up for". I (typically) work with perinatal folks whose world just got rocked. But, if your world got rocked in another way (e.g. job change, relationship turbulence, grief/loss...) I'd love to help with that. I work to thoroughly understand you, thoughtfully creating a space for your self-discovery. Together, we can locate your self-at-best, find resilience, improve emotional agility, and restore your adaptive functioning, where you are able to feel, deal, and heal in a way that honours who you are.

Is the weight of past experiences holding you back? Strong emotions, overwhelming memories, and chronic stress can quietly shape daily life, even when you’re doing your best to move forward. Unresolved trauma often shows up as anxiety, depression, addiction (whether substance or behavioral), and other painful challenges that can leave you feeling stuck. Whether you're new to therapy or seeking a fresh approach, I offer a supportive space for healing and growth. I have extensive experience working with RCMP members, veterans, and others whose lives have been shaped by high-stress or traumatic environments.

You might find yourself feeling overwhelmed, caught in familiar patterns, or unsure how to move forward in a way that feels aligned with who you are. Many of the individuals I work with are navigating anxiety, life transitions, or challenges in relationships—often accompanied by a sense of feeling stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about what comes next. Together, we can begin to make sense of these experiences while also creating space for new ways of responding and moving forward.

My approach is experiential and relational, drawing from psychodynamic, somatic, and parts-based therapies.
On the outside, you may look like you have it all together – responsible, caring, capable – but inside, something feels heavy or unsettled. You might find yourself questioning your own reactions, carrying a quiet loneliness, the old feeling of being “too much” or “not enough,” or the ache of never having felt fully seen. Old patterns can keep showing up in your relationships: working hard to stay connected, overthinking others’ reactions, or withdrawing when things feel too vulnerable. You’ve done your best to manage it, but you’re longing for something deeper – a way of being that feels more grounded, open, and at home in yourself.

I have always been passionate about connecting with people and learning from their experiences, which has shaped my dedication to mental health support. Before earning my Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work, I served as a paid-on-call firefighter with my local rural fire department for nearly 8 years. This time gave me deep respect for the resilience and camaraderie that defines first responder culture. Recognizing the need for clinicians who truly understand this world, I merged my passions for firefighting and mental health to specialize in supporting first responders and frontline workers.

I work with children, parents, and adults navigating stress, emotional regulation, or developmental concerns. Many are seeking more clarity, connection, or confidence—whether in parenting, relationships, or their own inner world. My ideal client is curious about doing things differently, even if unsure where to begin. They want compassionate support, practical tools, and a calm space to better understand themselves or their child and move toward meaningful change.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
