As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, family lawyer, family mediator and parenting coordinator, I am acutely aware that relationships don't end, they change; especially the case when children are involved.
My counselling practice focuses on relationships, with yourself and others, depression, anxiety, burnout, life transitions, past and present traumas, grief and loss. In working with couples I use a variety of evidence-based strategies including family systems, internal family systems, Gottman, emotionally focused therapy and attachment based theories.

I work with parents who are open to learning different parenting strategies instead of outdated, dysregulated emotional reactions (fear & punishment) to motivate their children.
Parent differently. Learn to manage your own emotions to teach your kids to understand what to do when triggered, how to identify their feelings, & actively calm themselves to solve their problems. Learn practical strategies to create safety leading to play & learning. I support classrooms & help parents to understand and prioritize report recommendations.

People with ADHD, Autism, and/or Learning Disabilities can struggle with balancing the demands of work, school, relationships, parenting, our own wellbeing, or even just everyday tasks.
My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, somatically-oriented and steers clear of 'one size fits all' thinking. I have obtained my MSW degree and I am a RSW with BCCSW. I utilize therapeutic techniques to support you in understanding your nervous system, explore your emotions, and connect to deeper parts of yourself.

Whether it's the relationship with oneself or others that needs attention, I care about helping you manage your challenges and move towards better days.

For children six and below, I normally suggest parenting support instead of individual counselling with the child.
Children are one third of our population and all of our future. I specialize in children, teens and families. I believe that parents do the best they can with the tools they have been given - tools that can be learned and expanded through counselling. I graduated with my Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from Adler University, and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors I work primarily with individual children (6-12), individual teens (ages 13+) and parents.

If you are a parent and want your child to have a session, my approach with kids is to use activities & play therapy to connect with them through imagination & then teach effective skills.
Learning new coping skills and effective methods to handle life's difficulties is the basis of how I work with clients combining Acceptance & Commitment Therapy & Expressive Art. My focus is to activate the deep wisdom and resourcefulness that you already possess inside of you. When faced with challenging relationship issues, family conflict or personal hurdles, you will begin to move forward with greater psychological flexibility and less discomfort. You will discover your values & goals, identify how to halt unhelpful thoughts, and gain greater confidence in your ability to be the person you want to be.

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
